Cycle Coventry news: Autumn Special

In this issue:


1. Spooky Speedway

Get ready for Halloween at Hearsall Common with free cycle speedway coaching for adults and children on Saturday 28 October at Coventry Cycle Speedway Track. Bikes and helmets are provided. (No need to book). 

  • 1pm Free Taster session for ages 16+
  • 2pm Free* Taster session for under 16s 
  • (Then take part in beginners Go Ride Races for under 16s for only £3 per rider) 

Fancy dress is optional, just remember to wear a long-sleeved top and trousers/leggings and bring gloves if you have some. 

Coventry Cycle Speedway Club is based only 10 minutes by bike or bus ride from the city centre and 10 mins walk from Canley Railway Station. Participants who need to drive to this event can park in Canley Railway Station Car Park, which is only a 5 minute walk.


2. Learn to ride for children and young people

Learn to Ride

Children and young people age 4- 15 can learn to ride with British Cycling at venues across the city. Bikes and helmets are provided.  Book a 45 minute session

Monday 30 October - Pathways Family Hub, Radford Primary School 

Wednesday 1 November - Aspire Family Hub, Gosford Park Primary School

Friday 3 November - Coundon Primary School

3. Free training for adults

You're never to old to learn to cycle or refresh your cycling skills. Book a free 2 hour learn to ride or cycle skills session near the city centre.  Bike and helmets are provided.

  • Friday 27 October
  • Monday 30 October

4. Cycle skills for children and young people

Under 16 and able to cycle? Book a free 60 minute cycle skills session with British Cycling's Community coach, who has bikes for children and young people to use. 

Monday 30 October - Pathways Family Hub, Radford Friday 3 November - Longford Park 


5. Parkride Inclusive Cycling

Try accessible adapted bikes and trikes for children and adults with Parkride at Longford Park Sports Courts, Windmill Road entrance (no need to book).

  • Friday 3 November, 1.30-3pm.

6. Let's Rock! - Breeze Ride

Join a free, women-only bike ride led by an experienced Breeze Champion. This is a great way to get started in cycling or to improve your skills, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned cyclist. The 11 mile ride is on Saturday 28th October from Allesley Park. Book a place online.    


7. Get Ready for the darker nights

WMCH Light

Cycling UK has produced a video on how to prepare for cycling in colder weather including choosing the right lights for darker days and reflective clothing and accessories. Visit your local bike shop

West Midlands Cycle Hire bikes are fitted with front and rear automatic lights . All lights come on automatically. when you pedal including the laserlight that project a green cycle image onto the ground 5 metres ahead of the bike.


8. Ride to Coventry Half Marathon

Remember the clocks go back, if you are going to Coventry Half Marathon, why not ride there. Plan your journey with the Travel Assistant.  There's supervised cycle parking by the start at Gosford Street (bring a lock) or use a West Midlands Cycle Hire bike and park at the docks nearby on Gosford Street or Cox Street.Check the App for latest availability of bikes.
