Mum's jumper

Mum's jumper by Jayde Perkin

If Mum has gone, how do you carry on? Missing her feels like a dark cloud that follows you around, or like swimming to a shore that never comes any nearer. But memories are like a jumper that you can cuddle and wear. And Mum's jumper might be a way to keep her close. A simple, heartfelt and ultimately uplifting book for anyone coping with loss.

You will be okay

You will be okay by Julie Stokes

"Grief is a tricky subject to explain to kids, but this book is a wonderful go-to expert toolkit!" Dr Ranj Singh. The death of a parent, sibling or friend is one of the most traumatic experiences for a child or young person and it can be hard to know how to talk to them about it. In this honest, comforting and strength-building guide Julie Stokes, a clinical psychologist and founder of childhood bereavement charity Winston's Wish, provides readers with the tools they need to navigate this tough and turbulent time. Readers will discover the stories of other people who have been through grief themselves. They will learn how to flex their 'grief muscles' in order to develop confidence, trust, grit, a resilient mindset and flexible feelings - the ability to notice, accept and talk about emotions when they choose to. And packed with practical exercises, such as creating memory boxes and managing different kinds of memories using 'memory stones', this guide will give readers helpful ways to manage their grief so they can begin to move forward with life. Because there is no right or wrong way to grieve, you just need to find your own way.

"The book I wish someone had read with me when I was young" Kristin Scott Thomas.

A monster calls

A monster calls by Patrick Ness

The monster showed up just after midnight. But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his back garden, though, this monster, is something different. Something ancient, something wild.

Winter vaccines

Top up your immunity this winter

Autumn COVID-19 boosters and flu jabs are vital this winter

All who work and live in the Coventry area are being urged not to delay in getting their autumn COVID-19 booster and flu jab to keep themselves and others safe this winter. The booking for both the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 autumn booster is now open to those who are eligible.

Getting your flu and COVID-19 vaccines are two of the most important things you can do to protect yourself against serious illness. Since the first COVID-19 vaccine was given in Coventry, it has saved lives and helped many thousands of people stay out of hospital. Data shows that immunity provided by COVID-19 vaccines decreases over time, so it’s important for those eligible to ‘top up’ with the COVID-19 autumn booster.

The flu virus can change every year and can cause serious illness or even lead to hospitalisation for those most at risk. The flu vaccine is the best protection against getting seriously ill from flu and it is important to get vaccinated as soon as you are able.

The eligible groups for this year’s Autumn booster vaccines include:

  • Everyone aged 50 years old and over
  • People with long term health conditions
  • Frontline health and social care staff
  • Pregnant women
  • Young children aged 2-3 years old (Flu only)
  • Primary school aged and some secondary school aged children (Flu only)

You can get your flu jab from your GP or from pharmacies across Coventry and Warwickshire who also offer the vaccines. People can book their seasonal COVID-19 vaccine using the National Booking Service or by calling 119, or can find a local vaccination walk-in site. Your COVID booster can only be administered at least three months after your previous dose. Many of these sites are still offering first and second dose COVID vaccinations if needed for those who are previously unvaccinated.

You can find out more about what vaccinations you may need, and information about how to book an appointment, by visiting the NHS website.
