To help us support schools effectively with tutoring, we need to understand how you are using your School-Led tutoring grant. Please complete the educational setting status form today, which includes three questions about School-Led tutoring. Guidance on how to complete the form is available.
If you have not yet started tutoring, you may find our how to guide useful, especially if you are thinking about offering tuition over the summer to prepare pupils for the new academic year.
The Department for Education is looking for school leaders and teachers who would like to contribute to national policy through the primary headteacher, secondary headteacher and teacher reference groups. An issue has been identified related to the pay freeze in 2021 which may affect a small number of teachers in relation to their pension.
Those who may be affected are teachers:
- who first joined the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) prior to 1 April 2015. (Those who joined after this date only have membership in the Career Average Scheme which is not impacted); and,
- who have not received any pay increase this year. (If a teacher received an incremental rise or additional allowance or moved to a promoted post will have had a change of pay and their pension will therefore be revalued. NB a change of hours would not count as a pay change if the FTE pay rate is the same); and,
- who are within 10 years of retirement (as the exact date of retirement is likely to be unknown, this should be deemed to be age 55 – the first point at which a teacher may access their pension benefits i.e. any teacher aged 45 and one day on 1 September 2021)

The Cost of the School Day is a programme that tackles financial barriers to learning and poverty stigma in schools. It is a whole school community project exploring the financial implications of schooling for families. We work with school communities to understand where difficulties lie for children and families on low incomes. We have worked with 13 primary and secondary schools across Coventry. Our Practitioner is running a series of drop-in sessions for Coventry school staff exploring themes across our Cost of the School Day programme and ways that Coventry schools support pupils from low-income backgrounds and ways that schools widen participation for pupils at their school.
These sessions are open to Coventry school staff, and participants are encouraged to share their best practice.
There is no cost for Coventry school staff to take part in these drop-in sessions.

‘Evidence-based strategies for effective and enjoyable grammar instruction’ course with GianFranco Conti; international keynote speaker, professional development provider, writer of instructional materials, blogger as well as an author of books and articles on language pedagogy. This course is designed for language teachers/departments interested in and already using the Cognitive Load Theory and Applied Linguistics approach. It draws on research arguing that an intelligent mix of explicit and implicit instruction is the most effective alternative to the traditional PPP (presentation, practice, production) approach.

Coventry and Warwickshire’s Suicide Prevention Partnership is inviting people to take part in a survey to help shape a refreshed approach to suicide prevention across the region.
On behalf of the Coventry and Warwickshire Suicide Prevention Partnership, Warwickshire County Council and Coventry City Council are seeking people’s views on a new joint strategy that will provide information, services and support across the area to help prevent suicide. The new strategy will outline how the Councils will work with other local organisations and services to achieve the vision that no one in Coventry and Warwickshire should ever feel that suicide is their only option.
People who live or work in the area are being asked to share their thoughts on the strategy and how it applies to them, whether through their work or personal life experience. Visit ask.warwickshire.gov.uk to complete the short survey. The closing date for responses is 10 July 2022.
If you have any comments, please let us know by contacting lucy.lambert@coventry.gov.uk.
