The founders of Operation Encompass, an information sharing safeguarding initiative between police and schools, have set up a Teachers’ Helpline to assist educational staff supporting children who may be affected by domestic abuse.
Funded by the Home Office, the helpline is open weekdays from 8.00am to 1pm throughout term-time and available to all staff in education settings. The helpline is not a referral route and does not replace statutory safeguarding procedures but provides an opportunity for educational staff to receive information and guidance from Educational or Clinical Psychologists to help them support children affected by domestic abuse within their educational setting.
For more information and resources to support children affected by domestic abuse, please visit the Operation Encompass website.
Welcome to Samantha Lord who was successfully appointed to the role of Senior Administrator following Christine Brownbill’s retirement at Easter. Samantha has worked at Coventry City Council for 18 years and moves across to Education from Adult Social Care. We know you will all support Samantha as she gets to grips with the world of education and becomes more familiar and knowledgeable about the work of the team and Coventry schools during the next few weeks and months.
A huge thank you to Christine for her loyal, effective and efficient contribution to Coventry Education for many years. We wish her all the very best with new adventures during retirement.
As discussed at Partnership meetings, please find below the asbestos policy and procedure documents.
Terrorist attacks, while rare, can be devastating. However, there are simple things that can be done to help prevent and lessen their impact, and many of these things are covered in the free eLearning training package which is available to enhance awareness. We would like to encourage all members of the wider school family, teachers, support staff and governors, to undertake this training.
Please register online, you can register your school or separately as an individual. Please select 'start new training session' then enter as an individual, where you will be given instant access to the course.
There have also been some additional videos added to the programme which have been specifically targeted at holidaymakers and festivalgoers.

‘Evidence-based strategies for effective and enjoyable grammar instruction’ course with GianFranco Conti; international keynote speaker, professional development provider, writer of instructional materials, blogger as well as an author of books and articles on language pedagogy. This course is designed for language teachers/departments interested in and already using the Cognitive Load Theory and Applied Linguistics approach. It draws on research arguing that an intelligent mix of explicit and implicit instruction is the most effective alternative to the traditional PPP (presentation, practice, production) approach.
Suitable for both primary and secondary settings, the session will focus on approaches to trauma and attachment within schools, how to support students with emotional regulation and how to strategically plan for provision within a mainstream school.
Tues 28 June 4pm - 5.15pm
Myton School, Warwick
Cost - £10
Please book your place online.
Science Technicians Conference - 1 July
As part of our Hand Earth Gesture Return (HEGR) public artwork at Coventry Canal Basin this summer (11-17 July), Pangaea Sculptors' Centre would love to involve local schools in the making of 1,000s of unfired clay flowers. These flowers will form dramatic piles that will adorn a sculptural gateway entrance and exit, showing the vast number of individuals involved in the project, and hand gestures used in the making will be marked by imprints left on the clay’s surface. We'd especially love a few children from each school to bring the flowers to the Canal Basin as part of a performance of 'offerings' on Saturday 16th July.
Highly awarded Kolkata-based clay artist and artisan Dolon Kundu has designed tulip, lotus, indigo, woad and wormwood flowers and made these instructional videos which are now available on our YouTube channel. Different schools should have everything they need to make the flowers without someone from Pangaea instructing from the front, including the videos, written instructions, and the clay. We can provide the clay on the condition that the flowers are then brought to the canal basin, or posted to us at: Daimler Powerhouse, Unit 4, Sandy Lane Business Park, Sandy Lane, Coventry, CV1 4DQ.
