Welcome to the October edition of our Green Business newsletter. We are excited to share with you the latest news about major changes happening in our region, as well as giving you an update on the Green Business Programme and upcoming events.

Our advisors have been very busy helping more businesses around Coventry and Warwickshire understand how they can become more energy efficient while contributing to the fight against climate change by reducing their CO2 emissions.

Event - COP26 Regional Roadshow, Coventry

Coventry City Council is delighted to be hosting a COP26 Regional Roadshow showcasing Coventry’s Transport Expo on 10 and 11 November at Coventry University Technology Park.

We’re offering organisations exclusive access to the National Transport Design Centre (ntdc) and Centre for Advanced Low Carbon Propulsion Systems (C-ALPS) to explore the transport innovations and prototypes being developed right here in our city.

You’ll hear about the role of micro mobility, along with a chance to take part in taster sessions for e-leisure vehicles such as e-rickshaws, e-scooters and e-bikes. We’ll finish with an e-bus ‘Tour and Talk’ of the city, with insights on Coventry’s future transport system and the path ahead.

UK’s largest battery Gigafactory will be built in Coventry

Gigafactory

Located in the epicentre of the UK’s automotive industry, the Gigafactory will begin supplying high-tech batteries for electric vehicles from 2025. It will be the result of a £2.5bn investment, creating up to 6,000 new highly skilled jobs directly and thousands more in the wider supply chain in Coventry and the surrounding region. Learn more.

£8.6m Coventry cycle route gets green light

Work is set to start within weeks on the Binley Cycleway in Coventry following confirmation of £8.6 million funding. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) board approved the money for the 6km safe cycle route - the latest in a series of cycling and walking projects due to get underway in the next few months. The Government has announced its strategy for achieving Net Zero by 2050

Event

The Government has published its Net Zero Strategy, setting out policies and proposals for decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy to achieve net zero by 2050.

Policies and spending brought forward in the Strategy mean the Government has mobilised £26bn of government capital investment for the green transition since the Ten Point Plan. Along with regulations, this will support up to 190,000 jobs by 2025, and up to 440,000 jobs by 2030, and leverage up to £90bn of private investment by 2030.

The Net Zero Strategy also sets out indicative delivery pathways to reduce emissions against a 1990 baseline, with economy-wide targets alongside those for key UK sector.
