One of the things that has always made the Starley Sportive different is the way it brings together the cycling community and local artists. This year will be no different and being UK City of Culture the organisers are working on some great features for this year’s event.

There are three different route options that take you into Warwickshire countryside, plus a short route for under 16s. 100% of all proceeds goes to charity.

Free cycling lessons for adults and children

Adult Cycle training

Free cycle training for adults (16+) is now available to book for weekdays and weekends up to the end of August.  Learn to ride and develop your skills away from traffic or build your confidence riding on the road. 

The three types of available sessions are:

Learn to Ride – I have little or no cycling experience   

Cycle skills - I can ride but want to learn away from traffic  

On road training - I want to develop confidence in traffic

Allotment rental discounts for Go CV+

Did you know 9 to 15 August is National Allotments Week

The popularity of gardening and growing your own produce has increased since lockdown and is a great form of outdoor exercise.

Go CV+ cardholders get discounted rental on Coventry City Council owned allotments which can cost anything from £15 - £35 a year, depending on location and facilities.

If you would like to apply for a plot or wish to go on the waiting list for a site, details can be found on the Council's website.

The Adult Education Service in Coventry offers a choice of courses in a wide range of subjects.  Each year thousands of people take the opportunity to learn a new skill, gain a qualification, find out more about something they are interested in, or simply make new friends.

Sports Fest 2021 - hope you enjoyed it.

Thank you to everyone who came along to Sports Fest 2021 either to take part, volunteer, visit us at the Go CV stall or simply enjoy the free family activities.

We had a great week in Broadgate, despite the rain at times, with wheelchair basketball, tennis, archery, cheerleading plus lots more.

Go CV had over 900 new cardholders sign-up during the week, so remember to tell your family and friends in Coventry about Go CV and Go CV+ so they too can enjoy discounts and offers on events, museums and attractions across the city.

On Friday we also saw colleagues from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games for their takeover day to mark 'one year to go'.

The city was delighted to welcome home from Tokyo the bronze medal winner Chelsie Giles from Coventry Judo Club. Here is our Olympian alongside Perry the Commonwealth Games mascot, Councillor George Duggins the Leader of the City Council and Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport.

Lunt Roman Fort - reopens 3 August

Take the chance to play Roman ball games, board games and explore this unique, historic site as you complete a fun discovery trail.

Encounter our costumed Roman soldiers, who will share fascinating facts about the fort, and challenge your children (and their accompanying adults) to some inquisitive thinking about what they can discover as they uncover the history and hidden secrets of this 2000-year-old fortress.

The Herbert - Crafting Coventry's History 

Join an exciting discovery of Coventry’s diverse and inspiring past.

From Lady Godiva to Medieval Coventry, the Tudor Times, the Victorians, the Second World War and 2 Tone. Coventry is the UK City of Culture 2021, making this an even greater and exciting time to learn about the city’s thriving past and pioneering people.

These popular workshops are fantastic for encouraging creative minds and enhancing the skills of budding artists. A member of our Learning Team will be on hand to help, give advice and encourage your children during this 90-minute workshop. All creations can be taken home with you on the day.  

Fees apply, which include one free accompanying adult. Suitable for ages 5+ and book tickets in advance.

Bands in the Park 2021

The free Bands in the Park series of events take place in some of Coventry’s beautiful parks during the summer months. Bring the family and enjoy some great music in fabulous surroundings. As an added bonus a ticketed outdoor cinema follows some events.

This is part of UK City of Culture 2021 Summer of Surprises, supported by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

The Sunday events will be held until September following government guidance applicable at the time of the events.
