As the government have announced the easing of most restrictions across England, we know that a lot of people caring still face a sense of fear and concern for their set of circumstances and things still feel a little scary right now. It may the be the anxiety of returning to a workplace; when working from home has helped support a caring situation, it may be the concern of people not wearing masks or not distancing whilst out and about. We know that carers have made enormous sacrifices along the way and at times significantly had to change their lifestyles to safeguard the person they care for.
However you feel about the changes afoot, please know that services are still there to support and will do so in way that suits how you are feeling about the situation. Although this bulletin focuses on some support returning face to face know that support is still available over the phone.
Hospital admissions leading to a care home stay
We want to hear from you if in the last six months the person you care for went to A&E then later went on to stay in a care home funded fully or partially by Coventry City Council.
We want to hear your story about the weeks and months and the key events which led towards that A&E visit.
We would like to talk together with you to identify key points for change which could have helped the person you care for avoid that hospital visit.
Your story will be used to help make a new tool called the Carers Intelligence Map. The map will bring together many stories into one place. It will be used by people who design services in Coventry to improve care with the aim of learning from past experiences to provide better support for the future.
Your story will be treated as confidential. Only general details which will not identify you or the person you care for, will be shared further than the research team. Any services you or the person you care for receive will not be affected.

As the lockdown restrictions are lifting, Carers Trust are hoping to restart some of the previous face – face support groups. With this in mind we are hoping to restart the General Carers Social Group for current carers still in a caring role who wish to meet up relax over a cuppa.

The Mental Health Carers Care and Share group is returning in person from Thursday 5 August!
If you are providing help and support to a relative, friend or partner who is experiencing difficulties with their mental health, join us for our Care and Share support group.
The next catch up will be held at Bonds Hospital, Hill Street, Coventry and will run 10.30am to 12noon.
Join us for an informal get together, chat and relax whilst enjoying some tea, coffee and cake. It would be great to see faces old and new!

Coventry War Memorial Park Meet Up and Lunch - Friday 13 August at 11am-12.30pm
Our next Milan South Asian Carer Support session will be held at the War Memorial Park in Coventry and our theme for this months catch up is mindfulness.
The group will meet at the main café in the centre of the park by the tennis courts at 11am. We will have a nature walk followed by a guided meditation, embracing the beauty of the park around us.
There will be some refreshments and a light lunch (which will be provided by Carers Trust Heart of England).
If you can register an interest, that would be very helpful, as it will give us an idea of how many people to cater for with refreshments.

Care We Share – Calling Coventry Carers
Care We Share is a unique online platform designed to insure your loved ones are cared from 24/7 by facilitating and managing a care network and sharing the responsibility. With over half of carers having to give up their jobs to care for a loved one, Care We Share is taking action. In partnership with Coventry City Council and Carers Trust Heart of England Coventry based carers are able to take part in a free pilot gaining access to Care We Share for free. On top of this, participants will receive a £25 amazon voucher for using the platform (a minimum of once per week over the three month period) and an additional £25 amazon voucher for completing a survey at the end of the trial providing valuable feedback that will shape the future of Care We Share. Researchers are looking for a small number of Coventry people, 65 and over, who are living with mild cognitive impairment or dementia, and also their carers, to help select and rate a number of art works from The Herbert Gallery’s collection. The research team plan to produce a set of local ‘digital’ artworks (paintings, pictures, photographs) and linked descriptions with aim of helping improve people’s wellbeing as being something that may possibly help to delay cognitive decline. They will be keen to hear your views on whether you think the art works are suitable to include in the app, and to discuss the possible wording of linked text explaining the art works. As a small thank you for taking part, participants would receive a £25 shopping token. This is a research collaboration between the Universities of Warwick and Coventry, in conjunction with The Herbert Gallery and Museum, and Carers Trust Heart of England and is funded by Coventry City of Culture 2021.
