June Newsletter

During the last month the Green Business Programme has positively noticed an increase in grant applications from businesses to help them go green.

On the subject of going green, we are looking forward to hosting our GreenTalk LIVE webinar on 30 June in partnership with the Department of International Trade (DIT) which will focus on clean growth and the green economy. Attendees will discover how the Clean Growth agenda can help grow your business and how the DIT can support you to find international opportunities. Further information about our webinar and how to register is below.

In addition, we have enjoyed representing the Green Business agenda at a number of online stakeholder events including Coventry University's Roads Academy Programme and we were also asked to speak at a Chamber event alongside Mark Pawsey MP about Coventry City Council's many sustainability projects.

There is also some exciting team news; we are delighted to announce that Sara in the team has given birth to a beautiful baby girl - Amelia and we wish Sara well, as she starts her maternity leave. Whilst Sara is on leave, we welcome Jon to the team, who is our new sustainability advisor. Jon has came from a telecoms background and recently completed a Masters in Sustainability. Jon has a passion for all things green, so I am sure he will relish advising businesses in the region on how they can reduce their carbon emissions.  To make an appointment with either Jon or one of our sustainability advisors to discover how your business can save costs and become more energy and resource efficient, please email greenbusiness@coventry.gov.uk

As ever, please stay safe and follow all the government guidelines as you continue to reconnect with more people.  Please make sure you visit the Coronavirus pages of the Council website to see what you can and cannot do as well as find out details around funding support that is available for businesses.

To keep up to date with our latest initiatives and news, don't forget to follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn.

We hope you enjoy this month's update and remember to stay safe! 💚

Bernie, Bethany, Clare, Denise, Jon, Maciej and Matt.

New office location for growing accountancy practice

Green business case study

Growing accountants and business advisors Jerroms have relocated their Coleshill office in a move that comes seven months after their merger with Chartered Accountants Harben Barker.

Having acquired the premises earlier in the year, the office has been recently refurbished to provide an excellent working environment for both staff and clients. This was achieved through a successful application for grant funding through the Green Business and Business Support Programmes, which are part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and are being delivered by Coventry City Council.

Jerroms will reduce their carbon footprint by over 4.5 tonnes a year through the green business grant funding received for low carbon measures which have included LED lighting; a combined heating and cooling system and loft insulation. In addition, funding was also received from the business support programme for office refurbishment.

Changing gear – learner drivers in Coventry plugged in to electric vehicles

Electric Fleet First

Learner drivers in Coventry are amongst those benefitting from a super-charged green incentive funded by Highways England and operated by Coventry City Council that allows businesses to try electric vehicles for free before they buy.

Smart Learner Driving School is a prominent business based in Coventry owned by Tommy Sandhu. The company, which employs 55 driving instructors, covers Coventry, Warwick and Leamington Spa.

He is just one of several businesses taking advantage of the £1.8m initiative with Coventry City Council that is designed to encourage a shift to cleaner, lower carbon vehicles. The incentive works by offering the businesses a free trial of electric vehicles for two months.

If you would like to find out more and be a part of this exciting opportunity, please register your interest in the Electric fleet vehicle trail.
