Cllr Duggins getting the vaccine

Council Leader’s vaccine call

The Leader of Coventry City Council had his first COVID-19 vaccination this week - and urged others to do the same when the offer comes.

Cllr George Duggins went for the first of his two jabs to the Holbrooks Health Centre in Wheelwright Lane, and praised the staff for a smooth and friendly service.

Lord Mayor calls on people to take a test and keep others safe

The Lord Mayor has been working from home and attending meetings and events online, but returned to the office on Tuesday (16 March) for a meeting of Full Council.

So to make sure she was not unknowingly carrying the virus and passing it on, she visited the community testing centre at the Indian Community Centre in Foleshill for a Lateral Flow Test

Cross-party letter urges government to continue pandemic adult social care funding

Three leading Coventry city councillors have jointly sent a letter to the government urging the continuation of emergency adult social care funding due to end at the end of this month.

Announced last year, the Infection Control Fund is to help care homes and home care services with additional Covid-19 costs, including infection control, visiting measures and extra staffing.

In a cross-party letter Council Leader Cllr George Duggins, Leader of the Opposition Cllr Gary Ridley and Cabinet Member for Adult Services Cllr Mal Mutton, have told the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock the funding needs to carry on while the country continues to battle the ongoing pandemic.

CSW COVID Business Pledge launched

Coventry City, Solihull and Warwickshire County councils are launching a Business Pledge for all businesses, including shops and hospitality, to help reassure staff and customers that businesses and venues here are operating in a COVID secure manner.

Coventry Railway Station - major changes ahead

Major changes are to take place at Coventry Station to enable the new boulevard section to be delivered as part of the £82million to be completed ahead of the start of UK City of Culture.

A new mural, inspired by James Starley, has started to be painted onto the side of Pool Meadow, located next to Sprinkles and facing the entrance to Lady Herbert’s Garden.

Motorists have their old polluting cars crushed in exchange for £3,000 worth of alternative transport

Motorists are handing over their old polluting cars to be crushed for scrap in exchange for £3,000 worth of alternative travel arrangements in what is the first scheme of its kind in the UK.

Electric taxi trial part of new Council electric fleet scheme

Electric taxis are now available for trial as part of the Council’s ‘Electric Fleet First’ project.

This week both Cllr Patricia Hetherton and Cllr Jim O’Boyle visited Whitley Depot to see the electric vehicles for themselves.

Digital Future for Libraries Service following £289,000 grant

Coventry Libraries Service has been given an amazing opportunity to expand its digital offer.

The service working in partnership with digital support agency, The Space, has successfully bid for an Arts Council grant of £289,000 to develop a Digital Culture Programme.

Plans announced for rugby league satellite clubs in West Midlands

After months of lockdown and restrictions for the sport sector, rugby league is finally getting back on its feet and preparing for a huge comeback.

Coventry Bears Rugby League Football Club has been busy behind the scenes, setting up satellite clubs, bidding for funding and planning within their community for Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) to come to Coventry this October.

Bringing history to life at the Daimler Powerhouse

As the Daimler Powerhouse continues to take shape, Imagineer are bringing the history of the building to life through restoring elements of the original building and through encouraging people who worked at the Daimler Powerhouse to share their stories.

Census

The census is almost here

While Census Day is this Sunday (21 March), you can fill in your form now.

By now you should have had your access code in the post which you can use to complete your form online at  www.census.gov.uk

If your household circumstances change on Census Day, you can let The Office for National Statistics (ONS) know.  

It’s important that you fill in your census questionnaire because it gives us the most detailed information we have about our society.  

By taking part, you will help inform decisions about the services you and your community need, like doctors’ surgeries and new schools.

What to do if you feel unwell, or live with someone who is unwell

Stay at home if you have either:

  • A high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • A new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly
  • Loss or change in sense or smell or taste
