Safeguarding Reminder – school gates at the start and the end of the day

From time to time, we receive intelligence from schools or the police relating to intruders attempting to access schools through the front gates at the beginning or at the end of the school day, or loitering around the school when children are arriving or leaving.

Please be vigilant to this, especially as the evenings are getting darker and it is more difficult to identify people when they are wearing masks.

If you have any cause for concern, or any individuals are loitering at the gates or on the street outside your school, please note down all details and information relating to the person’s appearance and report this either by calling 101 or report online.

You can also contact Vicky Hobbs (Vicky Hobbs v.sweet@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk) to discuss any concerns or queries that you may have.

New Counter Terrorism safeguarding website

Admissions arrangements – Coundon Primary and Blue Coat

We are consulting from 25 November 2020 - 6 January 2021 on the Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools Admissions arrangements policy for 2022 entry.  The documents are now on the Coventry City Council website.

After several years of expanding primary schools across the city, we have recently seen reducing birth rates and lower demand for places in reception at primary school. This trend is forecast to continue. Where schools have high numbers of spare places this creates financial difficulties for the schools. The proposed reductions are to help to keep enough spaces to allow for parental choice in the city (5%), and at the same time to make sure that we continue to have our high level of good and outstanding primary schools in the city.

Coventry City Council is proposing to reduce the Published Admissions Number for the community primary schools as listed below starting in September 2022.

School Name  Current Number  Proposed Number
Coundon Primary 90 60

The reduction will apply to Reception in 2022 and for each year after this. The size of all higher year groups in the school are expected to remain unchanged whilst children progress through the school.

Please read the consultation information document for further details and then complete our short survey to add your views. The consultation period will be from 25 November 2020 to 6 January 2021

If you need any further information, or wish to submit comments by email, please contact:  Erin Rée, 024 7697 5445, admissionsconsultation@coventry.gov.uk

Blue Coat CE School are also consulting on their 2022 admissions policy.

The Winter Mini Challenge

Challenge dates: Tues 1 December - Friday 15 January

The Winter Mini Challenge encourages children to keep reading through the winter holidays by rewarding them for reading and reviewing books.

To take part in the Winter Mini Challenge online, children simply read any books of their choice (including eBooks and audiobooks). We recommend reading at least three.  The books can be rated and reviewed online.

Live Q&A with a Roman Soldier from the Lunt Roman Fort

The Lunt Roman Fort may be closed at the moment, but that's not stopping Rufus, the Lunt's resident Roman Soldier from sharing his knowledge of Roman Britannia. He has gone virtual and is available for live Q&A sessions via Zoom for primary schools.
