Finally some good news to end with. Coventry City Council has secured £530,000 worth of funding from the Government to support low income households in the city to make their homes more energy efficient. This funding will support Climate Change objectives by reducing carbon emissions, further details are below.

The Green Business Programme alongside the Transport Team at Coventry City Council are running the fourth in their series of interactive webinars, providing insight into the success the City is having in putting sustainable city centre transformation in place.
This upcoming webinar will focus on the wide programme of works the team are planning in order to set the stage for May 2021 and talk about the outcome based approach they have taken to ensure a great visitor experience and leave a real legacy for local people. The team will share the learning curve they have been through over the last two years and share the new processes they have put in place, the importance of local engagement and the difference that art and creativity can bring to public spaces to leave a sustainable legacy post City of Culture.
There will also be a short presentation from EO Charging who will provide an overview on the City’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure and workplace charging options for businesses.

Two bespoke joinery and furniture companies in Coventry which design and manufacture high-quality products have invested nearly £500,000 in cutting-edge technology, its factory and renovations. Summers Joinery and RHA Production have expanded into its neighbouring premises in Barlow Road on the Aldermans Green Industrial Estate to cope with a current £1 million order book which has included working with customers in Dubai, Athens, China and Ibiza.
Over £85,000 funding was secured from both the Coventry and Warwickshire Green Business Programme and Coventry and Warwickshire Business Support Programme towards a 5 axis machine, extraction system, LED lighting and software needed to run the machine. Both projects are part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and are being delivered by Coventry City Council.

Coventry City Council has secured £530,000 worth of funding from the Government which will be used to support low income households in the city to make their homes more energy efficient.
The Council applied for and secured funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy which supports the Council’s Climate Change objectives by reducing carbon emissions, reducing fuel poverty and supporting jobs. The allocated funding for this first phase of their Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery Scheme, needs to be spent by the end of March 2021.
Qualifying households will be able to access a grant worth up to £10,000 to help support them with the costs of energy efficiency measures such as external wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, roof insulation and heat pumps.
To qualify for one of these grants, the home will have to be owner-occupied, the combined household income will have to be below £30,000 and the home will have to have an EPC rating of E, F or G. Councillor George Duggins, Leader of Coventry City Council, has endorsed and supported Eurocities’ call to revise EU 2030 climate targets to at least 55% by 2030.
Coventry has joined 58 cities from across Europe who have signed a letter to the President of the Council of the EU in favour of an ambitious revision of the EU 2030 energy and climate targets to at least 55% by 2030, up to 65% with the right support, compared to 1990 levels. Up to 2019 emissions across the EU were down by 23%.
Eurocities’ work with over 145 of Europe’s largest cities, including Coventry, to improve the lives of over 130 million residents across 39 countries. Like hundreds of cities across the world Coventry has committed to reducing carbon emissions and is leading the way in areas like transport with plans for very light rail, on street electric charge points, electric buses and the UK battery industrialisation centre.
