COVID-19 - Wearing of face-coverings in public

The seven West Midlands metropolitan council leaders have released a joint message asking residents to please listen to the advice and wear a face-covering in public.

Warning against complacency against the risk of catching coronavirus

Over the last 10 days, the number of people testing positive for the virus has slowly but steadily risen. These have nearly all been people of working age who have not needed hospital treatment but live across the city rather than in one area or of one demographic.

Liz Gaulton, Director of Public Health at Coventry City Council said that although the number of cases remain low overall, it was important people did not become complacent.

Test and Trace is free – don’t fall victim to a con

People are being urged to be on their guard against a new coronavirus-related scam. Criminals are now contacting people by phone, email and text, claiming to be from the NHS Test and Trace Service and asking for bank card details to cover the cost of the testing kit. The genuine NHS service is free.

The warning comes during Scams Awareness Fortnight, and amid new research which shows that more than one in three people in the UK have been targeted in scams since lockdown began.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki remembrance service to take place next week.

To mark the 75th Anniversary of the dropping of the first Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Coventry Lord Mayor's committee for Peace and Reconciliation are hosting a virtual remembrance service. The service will take place from 4.30-5.30pm Thursday 6 August.

It will be available to be streamed via Coventry Cathedral's website.

What to do if you feel unwell, or live with someone who is unwell

Stay at home if you have either:

  • A high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • A new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly
  • Loss or change in sense or smell or taste
