One of the Coventry Safeguarding Children Partnership's priorities from 2019-2021 is Contextual Safeguarding.

For more information around Contextual Safeguarding, the Contextual Safeguarding Network have two webinars now available to professionals:

1- Contextual Safeguarding - an introductory webinar

2 - Securing Safety - how often do we relocate young people due to extra-familial harm and why?

Both webinars can be accessed on the Contextual Safeguarding Network's website

Safe sleep for infants

Safe sleep can help protect your baby from sudden infant death syndrome (also called SIDS) and other dangers, like choking and suffocation.

Put your baby to sleep on his back on a flat, firm surface, like in a crib or bassinet. Do this every time your baby sleeps, including naps.

The safest place for your baby to sleep is a separate cot or Moses basket in the same room as you for the first six months, even during the day

This Serious Case Review didn't take place in Coventry, but the learning from it is applicable to all areas.

It concerns the sad death of a child who was a victim of Child Criminal Exploitation.

Please take the time to read our summary and reflect on the findings.

Do you keep seeing those little silver canisters on the pavement? They're used with a recreational drug called nitrous oxide that you might also know as laughing gas.

It's illegal to sell or supply nitreous oxide for recreational purposes. If you want to know more about the effects and risks of this drug, take a look at the following:

Children and young person - SARC service update

The Children and Young Person's Sexual Assault Referral Service is still open, however they request that children and young people are not brought straight to the SARC.

Please see their update leaflet for information on what to do before attending the SARC.

New One Minute Guide

Animal abuse can sometimes form part of a wider picture of family violence, incluing child abuse and domestic violence.

Professionals who work with animals and who may come into contact with abuse of animals in their everyday work are able to refer into Childrens Social Care if there is a concern around a particular family.

For more information see our new One Minute Guide
