The sweetness of life by Francoise Heritier
This is a lovely book to make you think of all the good things in life. The author is writing to a doctor friend who wrote to her saying that he had “stolen” a weeks holiday in Scotland and she is reminding him of all the wonderful things he is missing in life by working so hard. It reads like a stream of consciousness as she lists all the things in life that she cherishes, both past and present, and it allows you to start thinking of those special moments in your life, both small and large such as “holding buttercups under your chin to see if there’s a yellow reflection….making a blade of grass between your fingers and your lips whistle…..hearing the cascading of a waterfall”. This is a book to treasure in lockdown as it reminds us of the good times we have had and to cherish the small things that get us through these days.
