Issue - March 2020

Landlord Forum

Following an high volume of enquiries for additional Landlord Forum events, which will be focusing on the forthcoming Additional Licensing scheme, the Council has decided to provide a further date for these free events.

The next forum will be held on 16 April 2020 between 6pm and 8pm at the Council House, and will be limited to 100 spaces – if you are interested in attending, register your interest.

Landlord Accreditation (CLAS) scheme

The Council is pleased with the positive response to the Coventry Landlord Accreditation Scheme (CLAS), which is a voluntary scheme that private residential Landlords and Letting Agents are encouraged to join.

Due to the high demand for CLAS training sessions and all dates being fully booked up to the end of August 2020, further dates have been added. Find out more details about the scheme and secure a place on the training.

New HMO licence application form

With a view to improving the customer experience, the Council has been working to develop a new, simple to follow form to make the process of applying for an HMO licence easier. The new online form will become available on 17 March 2020.

Applications for an HMO Additional Licence

The new Additional Licensing Scheme will start on 4 May 2020. The Council appreciates that some landlords are now ready to make their application for a licence. It is therefore with great pleasure that we are able to confirm that the Council will be accepting applications for HMO Licences from 17 March 2020.

Before applying, please familiarise yourself with the criteria for different lengths of the licence.

Licence fees 2020-21

On 1 April 2020, our licence fees will change as shown in the table below.  This change will make the Stage 1 fee for all licence lengths the same, which in turn will make the application process simpler for landlords.  The overall costs of our licence fees are not changing.

New Fees Structure

If you have already paid a Stage 1 fee under the 2019-20 fee structure, the Stage 2 fee you need to pay will not change.
