Welcome to our last newsletter of the year. With Christmas just round the corner, it comes with seasonal increases in levels of consumption and in this months newsletter we will be sharing some top eco-tips on how to save the planet's natural resources without being a Scrooge. Other items include an update from our access to finance event as well as a round up on our latest funding and business initiatives. If you have any comments, news or suggestions, please get in touch. Engineering firm upgrades its lighting and heating to go green

Engineering firm goes green

An engineering business based in Rugby has benefited from an ERDF grant to make their premises more sustainable and save them money on bills.

Technoset Ltd specialises in the machining of high precision components and assemblies for Aerospace Defence, Medical Telecommunications, Sensors, Motorsport and Lasers Quality Commercial Components sector. The company has received a £47k grant provided by the Coventry and Warwickshire Green Business Programme to install energy efficient measures at its 1980s built premises.  

The measures have included installing LED energy efficient lighting throughout the factory and offices, extension of the heat ducting from Factory 2 into Factory 1, installing a shut off switch on the roller shutter door and installing a new solvent based component cleaning machine.  With the improvements, Technoset anticipates to see their energy bills drop by 33% and the organisation is helping to reduce 62 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Inward investment remains strong in Coventry and Warwickshire

Inward investment looks strong

Local businesses heard how Coventry is a top five entrepreneurial city during a major conference at FANUC UK in November.

​Around 100 business leaders attended an ‘access to finance and business support’ conference run by the Council and its partners about on-going investment in the region.

The event was held during the Coventry and Warwickshire Business Festival and brought together the business community under one roof to celebrate the first year of success of the three ERDF funded programmes: Business Support, Green Business and Innovation.

Do you want to help tackle Climate Change in Coventry?

Tackle climate change

The National Lottery Community Fund has launched a new £100 million Climate Action Fund to help people and communities take the lead in tackling climate change.  As part of our city-wide approach to tackling climate change and developing a clear plan for our local environment, we are keen to build a network of people and communities to drive change.

We are keen to invite local community groups, businesses, schools, universities and residents to a workshop on 4 December to play a part in the development and co-ordination of a joint partnership bid for some lottery funding. If you would like to help shape this joint bid then please register to attend this workshop as working together will help us to understand what we can do jointly.

This workshop which is being delivered by Coventry University and Coventry University Enterprises is a practical introduction to the basic elements of this 3D Design Software.  The workshop matches concise, straightforward explanations with hands-on exercises and tutorials to teach new users of SketchUp the software's core features and functions. All delegates will have access to a computer running a current version of SketchUp software.

Ten Green Workplace Tips for Christmas

1. Make sure you turn off all PCs and monitors at the socket before you leave the office.
2. Switch off office, meeting room and corridor lights, desk lamps and display lights as you leave.
3. Unplug any non-essential items rather than leaving on standby.
4. Turn off stand alone electric heaters at the socket.
5. Make sure you don’t leave any equipment charging needlessly.
6. Turn off dripping taps or report them.
7. Turn off printers and photocopiers at the socket.
8. Switch off at the socket any water coolers or vending machines.
9. When all your employees have gone home for Christmas, turn your heating down until it's just high enough to prevent frost.
10. Agree who is going to be last out and for them to do a walk round to make sure everything is switched off!
