The 2019 Coventry Peace Festival takes place from 1 November to 16 November and includes many events including the spectacular Where Light Falls, where a light show on Coventry Cathedral honours the city's heritage and the wartime bravery of its people. We also have the Lord Mayor's Annual Peace Lecture and the RISING Global Peace Forum as well as the Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade. Date: 8 November
Time: 9am to 12noon
Venue: Coventry Council House
This event is a chance for young people to explain how they feel about the issues in their
schools and communities. Adults will explain what actions they are already taking on these
issues. The delegates will then work together to generate new ideas for projects that schools
and communities can run to address these issues. The Lord Mayor’s Committee will then
support schools who want to implement these projects in the following months.
We encourage both adults and young people to attend.

Elgar’s much-loved choral masterpiece ‘Dream of
Gerontius’ is presented as part of Coventry Peace Festival
on Remembrance Weekend. Coventry Cathedral Chorus
is joined for this performance by The Parliament Choir, a
professional orchestra and internationally renowned soloists.

Date: 10 November
Time: 10.45am
Venue: War Memorial Park
A parade will march at 10.30am from Spencer Park to the War Memorial Park, with the Coventry Corps of Drums leading. The Bishop of Coventry will lead the service and the Coventry Brass Band will play during the service. The Lord Mayor and councillors from Coventry City Council, together with other VIPs and guests from our twin city of Volgograd will attend and lay wreaths. Organisations and members of the public will also have the opportunity to lay a wreath.

Venue: London Road Cemetery
The service will consist of a short reading, prayers and, a two-minute silence, along with the
laying of wreaths and closing prayers to remember civilian lives lost during the First and Second
World Wars.
Date: 11 November
Time: 10.50am
Venue: West Orchards Shopping Centre
The event will commence with speeches, prayers and readings. This will be concluded at 11am with the sounding of The Last Post, followed by a two-minute silence whilst 4,000 poppies fall from the domed roof of the shopping centre.

RISING brings together academics, students, politicians, policymakers and community activists to share with each other ideas about what it takes to build and sustain peaceful communities. The 2019 theme is 'The Ecosystem of Peace' and speakers include Julia Gillard (Former Australian Prime Minister), Helle Thronuing-Schmidt (former CEO of Save the Children International) and Roger Harrabin (BBC Environment Analyst).

The Coventry Jazz Band will entertain the audience until the lecture starts at 7pm.
This year, the lecture will be delivered by Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, Shadow Attorney General. There will be a question and answer session after the lecture, with closing remarks by John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry.
Light refreshments will be served at around 8.30pm

Come and see powerful poetry, visuals and photography projected onto the canvas of Coventry Cathedral, telling the story of the city and its people. It's a tale of destruction, recovery and resilience: from the medieval period through the destruction of the old cathedral during the Blitz, finishing with peace, reconciliation and the building of a modern city. Where Light Falls is free to attend and the illumination and projections will be repeated throughout each evening.
Outdoor event. Dress for the weather and there will be areas of darkness.We estimate visitors can promenade and see all the projections in 20 minutes. Arrive at anytime between 5pm and 8.30pm.
