Primary Fair Access Protocol 2019/20

There have been no significant changes to the primary fair access protocol.

The format of section 5 “The Process”, we have added bullet points rather than sentences. The wording of when schools are expected to admit a child has been changed from “7 calendar days” to “5 working days” which is essentially the same time period. Removal of the section 6 “Arrangements for Primary Supported Transfers” - this has not been adopted therefore is no longer relevant for Primary schools.

As the changes are not significant and do not change the way in which the protocol is administered there is not a need to consult further.

Reminder FAP panels:

HT’s are invited to attend panels for pupils on the FAP agenda who have been permanently excluded to support the decision making process. The information gleaned from this area is invaluable in being able to make pragmatic decisions in the best interest of the pupils. The Attendance & Inclusion service will continue to send invitations to Headteachers closer to the panel dates as a reminder.

2021 Admissions policies - consultation

Some schools in Coventry and some of our neighbouring authority schools have started a consultation period on their 2021 Admissions Policies. Details of these are available to view on the individual schools websites as well as the Coventry City Council website at: www.coventry.gov.uk/admissions

Emails will be going out to all Coventry Primary and Secondary schools by the end of Friday 11 October 2019 to confirm the details in regards to the process for all schools. Any questions please contact:  admissionsconsultation@coventry.gov.uk

Schools already in a consultation period are:

  • Rugby High School - 1 October 2019 - 12 November 2019
  • Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School - 7 October 2019 - 18 November 2019
  • All Souls Primary School  - comments to school by 9am on 25 November 2019

FAO PSHE Leads - Positive Choices

Positive Choices are currently working with Brook and Mentor UK to develop the RSE and Alcohol and Substance use lesson plans for PSHE - in addition to this we will be working with the C Card lead and School Nurses PSHE lead to enhance this offer to include their specialist areas.

I am aware that some of you have been identified as early adopters of PSHE and would like access to the lesson plans - the RSE and Substance education lesson plans will be released in the next couple of weeks and located on CGL/CoventryYP website for you to access (no longer on BeSavvy). Communication will be sent out to advise you of this going live.

I would like the opportunity to meet with you to discuss our offer further and share some PSHE briefing session dates Brook and CGL will be delivering in November.

Please can you email me on Sharon.bolesworth@cgl.org.uk if you would like to meet to discuss this further?

Grade 6 to 7 intervention event for High Prior Attaining students (Maths)

Nitharshan Srikanthapalan (SLE for Maths at Caludon Castle) is organising a Grade 6 to 7 intervention event for High Prior Attaining students. The aim of this would be to get students across the line into a Grade 7 and it is intended to be a free event to attend.

He is seeking head of maths contact details at each of the Coventry Secondary Schools to ensure that any school who wishes to participate has the opportunity to. Please, therefore, could you provide him (stsrikanthapalann@caludoncastle.co.uk) with an email address of the relevant person/people for him to contact at your schools.

Training on Active Learning, Effective Questioning and Behaviour Management Strategies
