Welcome to this month's Carers' Bulletin. This month the Coventry Telegraph reported on the real experiences of Young Carers in Coventry. Read one young man's story.
We know that supporting carers in the workplace is an ever increasing priority, with 1 in 7 of the workforce population having caring responsibilities alongside working. If you are an employer and you're interested in learning more about supporting carers in your workplace, this month Carers UK released a helpful report for employers "Supporting Working Carers: A Growing Challenge". Read the report.
You'll see in the bulletin there are a range of events going on in September, from having your say about services provided the local hospital to a host of fun events at the libraries.
Carers, patients and members of the general public are invited to UHCW's fifth We Care event. Find out more about Dementia Care, parking at UHCW, the Genome Project and much more.
You can join the hospital from 2pm. The event will be hosted at the St Peter's Centre in Hillfields, on Thursday 12 September.

The Adult Social Care Information Directory has all the information and advice you need in one central place - so you can find the information you need easily.
The Directory allows you to look at the range of services within Coventry, from voluntary services to Zumba classes.
You can even complete an online self-assessment or a carer's assessment.

It may seem like an odd thought – for people with caring responsibilities to take on volunteering roles in addition to everything else. It of course isn’t an option for everyone; however, finding the right volunteering activity can bring opportunities to get out and about, meet new people, keep using valued skills and develop new ones.
Rosemary has been volunteering with Alzheimer’s Society in Coventry for just over a year and combines this with supporting her parents. This is her story…
“I retired from full time employment in mid-2017. As I then had more free time I wanted to do some volunteering. I chose the Alzheimer’s Society as the mother of one of my closest friends has advanced dementia and I know what a challenge this diagnosis has been to my friend and her brother.
I volunteer in the Coventry Alzheimer’s Society office undertaking admin work which supports local groups and the team. I’ve been a PA/Secretary all my working life so was keen to use my skills in a voluntary role. I’ve made a new set of friends and feel very much part of the team even though I’m only there for a few hours each week”.
Volunteering as a regular commitment can range from a morning a month at groups to more frequent support to enable people with dementia to continue doing the activities they enjoy. There are also ad hoc opportunities to help out at information stands or events – like the upcoming local Memory Walk (28 September).
All volunteers receive training and support – including regular bulletins and Volunteer Voice events for volunteers to get together.

The Triumph of Siegfried Bettmann
Discover a display the life and work of Siegfried Bettmann, the founder of Triumph at Stoke Library 13-22 September during the library opening hours.
An illustrated display about the life and work of Siegfried Bettman, a Stoke resident who founded the famous Triumph company in the late 19th century. The display is presented courtesy of the Stoke Local History Group and the Coventry Society.
