New guidance to combat CSE

The Coventry Safeguarding Children Board and Coventry Children's Services are pleased to announce that new guidance has been developed for frontline professionals working with young people deemed to be at low risk of Child Sexual Exploitation.

It is designed to be a quick, easy to use first reference guide packed with information to assist practitioners from all agencies. It includes information on risk definitions, tips on building trusted relationships, starting a difficult conversation, intelligence sharing and more, with useful links to documents such as the screening tool, MARF and the West Midlands Police Intelligence Form.

Preventing youth crime

A new service was launched on 28th May to offer support to children and families where there is a concern about a young person possibly at risk of being exploited by a gang.  Further information about the service and the screening tool is available for you to read.

Reduced timetables - recording pupils

The new process for recording pupils on reduced timetables has now been finalised. Schools are required to inform the Local Authority of any changes in a pupil's timetable where it would take them below statutory hours per week. With any new pupil being placed on a reduced timetable schools are requested to complete the form, which will be automatically sent to the relevant Local Authority Officer.

Before completing the form, schools are required to have parental consent and have informed the parent as to the hours and the length of this proposed reduction, schools will be requested to provide evidence of both of these points. Further details on the statutory duty of schools and the Local Authority on reduced timetables is available for you to read.
