This report from the Centre for Cities looks at the disparity in how different UK city centres are performing, how there is a difference between the high street and the wider city centre and shows that high streets and wider city centres are not struggling everywhere. It argues that the success of those city centres that are thriving has been driven by jobs growth, in particular amongst high-skill businesses.
Use the data tool to compare Coventry's performance against other cities'.
- Coventry has a slightly higher rate of retail vacancies than the average for UK cities
- Compared to the average of other cities, a notably higher proportion of commercial property in Coventry City Centre is used for retail and a lower proportion for offices
- A comparatively lower proportion of Coventry City Centre's office units are of high quality
- Coventry is amongst the group of city centres that have experienced high population growth, particularly due to students, but comparatively low jobs growth
