Welcome to our new combined newsletter for The Pod Café and
Food Union. As our integration of these two food avenues becomes ever stronger
since the move to Far Gosford Street and our increased involvement creating our
CV5 allotment, it seemed right to link these together. We’ll be keeping you updated
with current events and news across both places, documenting and showing what
we’re doing as we go through the year. There’s always lots of opportunities for
involvement.

Opening times
The Pod café is open from 12-4pm. We offer plant-based meals for £3,
all made with local, seasonal ingredients, we will also be putting some more
dates on for supper clubs so watch out for these.
Our CV5 Allotment is open for new and existing collaborators from 2-5pm on Tuesdays. Meet at the gate opposite Lake view park off Four Pounds Avenue.

If you have skills to share then you could consider joining
Time Union and be able to gain credits, bank hours whilst working at the allotment.
Due to the small size of our new kitchen we are not running
take over events as previously, however if anyone has an culinary/food skills/knowledge
in areas that you would like to share with our café team that we can then recreate, you may be able to do
so as a Time Union member; come in to discuss with any of the Pod team or fill in the application form.
We'll be having another Time Union gathering in the café in the forthcoming weeks so keep an eye out on social media for this event launch date.

In the past few weeks we’ve been working un partnership with
Tin Angel records and have had Baby Copperhead and Ryan Driver playing us some
wonderful music whilst people have enjoyed dining in the Pod Café.
|
Our last supper club was a huge success, we had Dani Blanco Albert of
Room Art perform a wonderful music composition; we served spring vegetable soup, root vegetable pie and rhubarb crumble into
the evening.
Thanks to everyone who attended the
supper club, and we look forward to seeing some new faces at ones in the future.

Anthony Stevens, our recent resident artist is currently exhibiting 'Said the Bird' at Fargo Village. Make sure you get over to see his work whilst it's here. It was a pleasure having Anthony around in the café over his residency and we look forward to his return.

The Café team have been using some spring vegetables in
dishes, happy to say so long to some of the winter roots for a little while and

Our New Food Union coordinator Marc has started digging in (sorry)
to CV5 and we have lots of ideas for making this allotment even more beautiful
and bountiful than it is already. Here’s Marc in his element, many of you will
recognise him as he’s been involved in the CV5 allotment since last year, his
experience and knowledge of growing and horticulture is going to be of huge
value and we are thrilled to have him on the Pod team.

Since the beginning of spring we’ve been busy preparing the
beds for planting this year's crop, deciding on the new rotation as well as
planting seeds in the greenhouse which after the boost of sunshine the other
week have popped up into life.
Lots to be done, in areas other than gardening as well, so
if you’re no green fingered soul don’t be put off, we’re keen to redecorate the
tea room and there’s opportunities for structural work as well.
Last week we harvested some baby leeks and fresh parsley; Izzie
was able to take them straight to the café for serving in one of the Pod café dishes.
We made leek and mushroom pie which was hugely popular and will be on the menu next week.

In the forthcoming weeks jobs in the allotment will include:
- Creating cut flower bed
- Digging and weeding vegetable beds
- Mending border fences
- Clearing rubbish off site
- Potting on veg
- Staking apple trees
- Creating and planting herb bed
- Clearing poly tunnel areas
- Weeding paths
- Building comppst bays
- Dismantling arbour
We are also going to test out how the clay pizza oven faired
over the winter spell and hope to fire this up for our CV5 Open day event at the end
of May.
