Coventry's population estimate 2016

The updated estimate of Coventry’s population was published yesterday by the Office for National Statistics. Read a short note explaining the key facts about the current population by age and population growth using the link above.

Key insights:

  • Coventry’s population estimate for mid-2016 was 352,900 residents, an annual increase of 7,500
  • As has been the case in recent years, the annual population increase between mid-2015 and mid-2016 in Coventry was amongst the highest in the UK with the 10th highest growth rate out of all local authority areas
  • The main factors causing population growth in Coventry are international migration and the number of births in the city
  • The growth of the city’s two universities has been a factor in recent population growth
  • Coventry is a relatively young city and has been becoming younger on average in recent years
