3 ways to get cycling this month

If National Bike Week and Coventry Cycling Festival inspired you to get back on your bike, here are ways we can help:

  1. Cycle Training - Sign up for Cycle training for children and adults at Moat House or Xcel Leisure Centres. Evening sessions for adults at Alan Higgs.  You can borrow a bike and helmet.    
  2. Get your bike checked - If your bike needs a safety check visit Dr Bike at Godiva Festival 2-3 July or Coventry Station on 7 July
  3. Join a ride - Find a guided bike ride near you including local Sky Rides, Breeze rides for women  and social rides organised by local clubs and individuals.

Sky Ride

It's only 40 days until you can enjoy a great day out riding on traffic-free streets at Sky Ride Coventry on Sunday 7 August 11am - 3pm. There's lots of entertainment on the 7km route including the Extreme Mountain Bike Show, British Cycling’s Go Ride children’s obstacle course, quiz show games and face painting. Cycle Hire on the day. Invite your friends to join in the fun and register free in advance.

Ride to the Godiva Festival 1 - 3 July

Godiva Festival returns to War Memorial Park this weekend, including headliners; The Boomtown Rats (Friday), The Charlatans (Saturday) and Scouting for Girls (Sunday).

Extra event cycle parking is available by the Visitors' Centre from 5.30pm on Friday. There are also free cycling activities to enjoy in the Family Field Sat and Sun 12noon - 5pm: Dr Bike, Cycle Speedway (Sat), Skills loop (Sun).  Visit Cycle Coventry at the Network West Midlands Bus to find out about cycle training, local routes and support to help you ride to work.

Love Your Bike at Coventry Station - 7 July

If your bike’s been in the garage for ages or has punctures or sticking brakes, bring it along to Dr Bike 4:30pm - 6:30pm at Coventry Station on 7 July:

  • Free bike safety check 
  • Opportunity to buy a discounted D-lock if you cycle to the station to catch the train
  • Advice on free cycle training

Taming of the Shrew at Fargo Village - 19 July

See The Handlebards all-female theatre troupe as they visit Coventry to perform The Taming Of The Shrew on their 1000 mile UK tour on Tuesday 19 July 6.30pm (6pm doors).  This performance is operated on a ‘Pay What You Can’ basis. This means, all you have to do is turn up at Fargo Village and enjoy.

Cycle Speedway at Hearsall Common and Bretford

Coventry Cycle Speedway Club is adding to their Wednesday night training sessions at Hearsall Common by starting Saturday morning come and try it sessions for children and young people at Bretford from 9 July.

 

Cycle Maintenance Course - 23 July

Hurry if you would like to attend the next Cycle Maintenance course on 23 July at Koco Community Centre. Places are very limited.  Book online
