It may be hard to believe from the weather outside but it's July today! And as we head towards the Summer, you might be thinking about what is coming in the next year of school, or simply how you will keep yourselves and the kids busy over the summer holidays!? Hopefully some of the information in this bulletin will give you some ideas on both fronts. If you are aware of activities or groups meeting during the summer and would like others to know about them, let us know by Friday 15 July and we can include them in our last bulletin of this school year.
It's a busy end to the term for many, and no different here at SEND IASS. We have 200 people booked in for our "The A Word Live!" event on Tuesday 12 July (more on that next time!) and hope to appoint a Children & Young Person's Officer next week to support our offer to children and young people.

The transferring of children and young people who have a Statement of SEN is due for completion by April 2018. The Local Authority has a "Transition plan" in place to show when they intend to transfer pupils who have not yet been through the transfer process.
This has recently been updated, and also shows the progress that has been made so far. Coventry had around 1400 statements, and a number of Learning Difficulty Assessments (LDA's) in post-16 institutions in September 2014, which has meant a large number of transfers are due to take place in each academic year.
If you/your child has not been through this process yet, you can also request an "Independent Supporter" to help you through the process. Read more details of how to access a supporter, provided mainly through Grapevine for those transferring from a statement to an EHC Plan.
Coventry's "Local Offer" is always available, offering a central point for you to find out all you need to know about Special Educational Needs and Disability for children and young people (0-25) across Coventry.
Whether you want to find out about a particular service - Occupational Therapy, the All-age disability team, Coventry SEND Early Years Support Service - or what leisure activities are available in Coventry, the Local Offer is a great place to start.
You can also post your own views about the Local Offer and make suggestions on what can make it better!

 NICE has published guidance on transition which covers the period before, during and after a young person moves from children’s to adults’ services. It aims to help young people and their carers have a better experience of transition by improving the way it’s planned and carried out. It sets out how health and social care services should support young people and their families and carers as they move into adulthood, incorporating the requirements of the Care Act and Children and Families Act.

Autism Connect is a website with resources that include a section on each Local Authority in England in relation to how they make positive changes and improving the lives of people with Autism. visit: www.autism-connect.org.uk/site/index
 A free online Managing Money module to support anyone on the autism spectrum of an age where they are ready to start learning about managing cash, banking, savings, and debt has recently been launched. Created by MoneySuperMarket.com in association with The National Autistic Society, it covers a wide range of money-related topics and can be completed in one visit or accessed section by section over as many visits as required.
The module was created to assist learners to recognise their strengths as well as the challenges they may experience with managing their money. It shares real-life experiences of autistic people about the sorts of difficulties they encounter, and how they successfully manage their money.
Whilst created for people with autism, it could also be suitable for youngsters with a range of other Special Educational Needs so if you’re looking to introduce or develop learning in managing money for you or your young person, it might be worth a look.

Positive Parenting are delivering a Triple P Seminar "The Power of Positive Parenting". This free session will give parents and carers lots of tips and ideas which will help with ways to manage children's behaviour and support development.
