In Partnership - April edition

From the manager's office

Well Spring has finally sprung, and this month's bulletin comes to you with a slightly warmer glow - although by the time you read this, there's every chance that it'll be snowing! This month has been a busy one at SENDIASS, with parent information events and a phenomenally well attended drop-in session at the Central Library. It was excellent to see some new faces at these, and hope that everyone found them worthwhile. You can read about the "Emotional Health Needs around the family" event below, including a round-up of the services available in this area.

Next month we will be asking the Local Authority's Head of SEND Student Services Jeanette Essex to answer any questions you have about services in the Coventry area and publish them here. Do you have a burning question that you want answering? It might be about Education Health and Care plans, school transport, or maybe even about the quality of this bulletin! Whatever your question, send them in to SENDnews@coventry.gov.uk and we'll get Jeanette to answer them.

University of Warwick - Cerebra Family Research Group

Warwick Univeristy Research

Cerebra 1,000 Families Study

Mothers and fathers of children with a learning disability, this is your opportunity to inform research and policy for coming decades!

The Cerebra Family Research Group, at the University of Warwick, in collaboration with the research charity Cerebra, wishes to explore the experiences of parents or parental caregivers who live with a child with a learning disability aged 4 to 11 years. We want to make this the largest study ever of families of children with learning disability in the UK.

The 1,000 families study will further our understanding of what it is like to raise a child with a learning disability in the UK and will help shape future information and support for families and children – so get involved!

Emotional Health Needs Around the Family Feedback

The Emotional Health Needs Around The Family Event took place on 22 March at The Welcome Centre, Coventry.

Almost 70 parents and professionals came to the SENDIASS information event, to offer support and information for parents and a networking opportunity for professionals.

Presentations were given by both voluntary and local authority representatives, with an overview of their services, news, updates and short films in relation to emotional well-being and mental health issues.  Parents and carers then had a further opportunity to approach services on an individual basis at their stalls in a ‘Market Place’.  This was complemented by a facilitated ‘Cosy Corner’; providing parents and carers with a safe, informal environment for discussion and appropriate signposting if required.

You can find out more about the event.

You can find out more about our forthcoming events through this bulletin or via our website.
