Happy New Year!! I trust your Christmas break was enjoyable even though it feels a long time ago now!
Welcome to a new look E-Bulletin, which will be hitting your mailboxes on a monthly basis from now on. As well as providing information about all things SEND, both within Coventry and nationally, we'd love to feature more input directly from you; do you know of any new support groups for young people/parents? Have you had a really good experience which has made a real difference to you/your family?
Should you wish to contribute something to a future edition, or have any suggestions on how we can make the bulletin better for you, then drop us an email at SENDNEWS@coventry.gov.uk.

The Department for Education has produced a new document which may be of interest to families.
On 1 September 2014 a new duty came into force for governing bodies to make arrangements to support pupils at school with medical conditions. The aim is to ensure that all children with medical conditions, in terms of both physical and mental health, are properly supported in school so that they can play a full and active role in school life, remain healthy and achieve their academic potential. The safety of young people in our schools is paramount. Establishing the identities of children missing education is a priority for all concerned, and an important step in ensuring that these children are kept safe from harm. In response to Sir Michael’s concerns, we are seeking to amend the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006. This consultation, launched on 19 January, seeks views, particularly those of schools, local authorities, and parents on our proposals for doing so.
To help analyse the responses please use the online system wherever possible. Visit https://www.education.gov.uk/consultations/ to submit your response.
Respond by: 7 March 2016. The results of the consultation will be published in Spring 2016.

The Expert Parent Programme is an innovative online training programme for parents of disabled children.
