Remember to BBQ safely
Did you know that Coombe Country Park is one of the only public parks in Coventry and Warwickshire where you are permitted to have a barbecue?
Lots of parks have struggled to provide a facility due to issues with damage to land and park furniture. If you plan to barbecue at Coombe, please do so sensibly.
We have a designated barbecue area in the park. Please make sure that all barbecues are raised off the grass. If you use a picnic bench please use the metal sheets mounted on some of the picnic tables to prevent scorching and fires.
We ask that you help us by ensuring barbecues are completely cool before disposal.
Coombe Country Park is very excited to be part of two major Heritage Lottery Funding projects to invest in the heritage landscape and to help people engage with it.
The Capability Brown Festival 2016 has achieved Stage 2 funding which will focus on engaging audiences with Capability Brown's work across the country, including Coombe Abbey, and also a promoting wider appreciation of landscape design. Work starts with the festival team and partnered sites this summer to develop projects and activities deliver this project.
The latest project that has received a funding boost is the Princethorpe Woodlands Living Landscape. This landscape, which covers 618 ha area includes Coombe Abbey, has 20 woodlands and has been described as the most important cluster of ancient woodlands in Warwickshire. Theinitial grant will allow detailed surveys of the area to be carried out as well as extensive community consultation, informing detailed delivery plans which should allow the partnership to secure an additional £1 million to deliver the project over four years. We are delighted to be working with partners Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and many more to develop this project.
Treat yourself or a loved one with the new range of natural handmade soaps, now available in the shop at the visitor centre.
Peter of Warwickshire Soaps starting making the soaps with all natural ingredients after his young daughter was reacting to many mainstream brands of cleansing products that claim to be gentle to skin. He first developed the fragrance free Shea Sensitivity soap, but soon expanded into a larger range. Eight varieties are now available at Coombe including Lavender Dream, Orange and Coconut. However the stand out favourite with the Coombe staff is the Chocolate Mint, which smells good enough to eat!
Each soap, priced at £2.80, is handcrafted in Warwickshire and individually packaged, making it an ideal gift while supporting local business.
