 Dear Partner
I'm delighted to announce that the transfer of powers from Parliament to Cheshire and Warrington has been confirmed, giving local people and leaders more control over their destiny.
The Parliamentary Order (or Statutory Instrument) to formally establish the Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority (CWCA) has been approved and signed by Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Devolution, Faith and Communities), Miatta Fahnbulleh MP.
It's a landmark moment for Cheshire and Warrington, marking the transfer of powers from Westminster to our region. It means the Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority is now officially established.
We'll elect our first Mayor in May 2027 and through the transfer of key transport, economy and skills powers from Whitehall, the Combined Authority will unlock at least £650 million in funding over the next 30 years.
The ambitions of the Combined Authority will be to bring better jobs, better transport and smarter investment to the region, transforming the area into the UK's healthiest, most sustainable, inclusive and fastest-growing economy by 2045.
You can read more about what it means for the region via the announcement on our website. But please also do read the views of Steve Purdham, Chair of the Cheshire and Warrington Business Advisory Board and watch the video explainer from my colleague Cllr Karen Shore below.
I hope you're as excited as I am about this brilliant news for our region. We'll be in touch again soon outlining the next steps in our journey - and how you can get involved.
I'm grateful to all those partners and stakeholders across Cheshire and Warrington who have been instrumental in getting us to this point.
Thanks to your hard work: now really is the time for our region.
With very best wishes
 Cllr Louise Gittins
Chair of the Shadow Board
Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council
Steve Purdham, Chair of the Cheshire and Warrington Business Advisory Board has reflected on this milestone for our region:
“Cheshire and Warrington has been a real success story within the Northern economy and wider UK. We’ve been able to buck the trend nationally by embracing new initiatives and supporting those with ambition and drive for the region.
“Devolution is the next step on this journey and we hope that it will help us to do even more for the benefit of the region.”
