Dear Resident,
INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR GARDEN WASTE COLLECTIONS 2024
The last collections for this subscription year will take place between Monday 18 November and Friday 29 November.
Please check your calendar for your final collection day: Collection day | Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Once collected by our crews, we send all your garden waste to a local open air composting facility. Usable compost is formed through an aerobic process. This means the garden waste is turned regularly to help the oxygen in the air to breakdown the waste over time. It is therefore helpful to ensure that any garden waste you have is presented on your last collection day so it can go through this process. If garden waste is left in your bin for too long, it starts to breakdown in a way which can slow-down the open-air composting process.
We collected over 28,000 tonnes of garden waste in the last (2023) full subscription year, contributing to our highest ever recycling rate of 59.1% in 2023/24.
If you produce garden waste during winter, you can take it to your local household waste recycling centre for composting. Alternatively, you can pile it up in a sheltered place in your garden, and then place it into your garden waste bin once the 2025 service starts again, taking care to check for wildlife that may have moved in to escape the colder winter months.
We will send you another email in December to let you know how to renew your garden waste subscription for 2025. The service starts again on 24 February 2025.
Don’t forget to recycle your food waste using the Council’s convenient weekly collection service. We only accept food waste when placed in the special brown food caddy. It must not be placed in the garden bin, or general rubbish bin. Food waste is collected every week on the same day as your other containers.
