Just over a week left to apply for solar group-buying scheme
Cheshire residents have until 10pm on Friday, 27 October, to register for Solar Together Cheshire and Warrington, a group-buying scheme that offers solar panels and/or battery storage at a competitive price. Over 6,000 households have already registered for the scheme, with many people already receiving their personal quote with instructions on how to proceed if they’d like to take up the offer.

Driving Change: Sustainable travel options for businesses
As part of the Council’s commitment to supporting the local business community to transition to net zero, a sustainable travel showcase event will be held on Monday, 4 December, at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall. The event will feature a wide range of sustainable travel solutions for businesses. Representatives from a range of organisations will showcase options around active travel, public transport, electric vehicles, scooters, bikes and mobility solutions.

300,000 people given new access to nature, study of Northern Forest shows
A study, commissioned by the Northern Forest Partnership, has shown the real impact of the 5.3 million trees that have been planted as part of the ambitious Northern Forest project. The Mersey Forest, the area’s local Community Forest, is a founding partner of the project which is helping the North adapt to a changing climate, whilst improving people’s health and wellbeing, and local economies.

Council funding helps local business become more sustainable
Blakemere Village, a local family attraction near Northwich, has benefitted from funding through the Council’s Climate Emergency Fund. The fund has helped to install 113 solar panels, which will help reduce energy costs and save the business around 19 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of taking four cars off the road.

New app available to help you save money on your energy bills
The Council has teamed up with the Energy Saving Trust to bring you an app that will give you advice on how to use less energy in your home and save money. The app, which is available to download from both Apple and android app stores, takes you on a journey of a typical home and asks you some simple questions relating to electrical items within that room. Based on your answers it will provide you with the potential financial saving you could make, if you follow the simple changes it suggests.

Improving walking, wheeling and cycling links in Ellesmere Port
As part of the Ellesmere Port Town Centre Levelling Up Fund, there will be improved links for walking, wheeling, and cycling, plus new cycle parking in the town. Plans for the proposal are available to view online and the project team will be available to speak to on selected dates in October and November at either Ellesmere Port Train Station or Ellesmere Port Market. You can share your views on which route you prefer for walking, wheeling or cycling by completing a short online survey or at the in-person events.

Council to apply for part of the River Dee in Chester to be designated as a bathing water
The Council’s Cabinet has agreed to apply for part of the River Dee in Chester to be designated as a bathing water following the Clean Dee consultation. 98 per cent of people completing the consultation said that having clean water to swim and play in the river was very important to them.

Green Expo Awards
The Green Expo awards are taking place next month, celebrating local sustainability champions, innovation, and eco-friendly initiatives. Businesses, organisations or individuals with a connection to Cheshire and Warrington and that are making a difference locally as we strive to become net zero are encouraged to enter. There are eight categories to choose from. Apply before 30 October deadline.

Council asks for clarification on future transport investment plans
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, has expressed the Council’s disappointment following the news about HS2 north of Birmingham, which was announced earlier this month. The Council is seeking clarification on the future investment in the North West transport infrastructure.
