Work continues to maintain and develop the borough’s wonderful wildflower meadows

Wildflowers

Native wildflower meadows, created by the Council’s StreetCare teams have been much-admired by residents and visitors this summer.

The displays of wildflowers were grown to give pollinators, like bees, a boost in the borough and definitely caused a buzz on social media, with lots of compliments.

The Council’s wildflower displays were created using a bespoke Cheshire seed mix that was created by the Wildflower Centre based at the Eden Project.

Wellbeing Walks in west Cheshire

A new series of weekday Wellbeing Walks has been announced for the autumn and winter, available across the borough and run by the Council in partnership with The Ramblers.

The walks are led by a team of enthusiastic and friendly volunteer walk leaders;  the walks are free, fun and friendly.

Consultation launches on new social housing tenants’ charter

A new charter is being designed to establish a fresh relationship between the Council and its social housing tenants.

The Social Housing White Paper in November 2020 realigned the relationship between landlord and tenant by giving greater powers to tenants and making landlords more accountable.

In response to the White Paper, the Council and its housing partner ForHousing have worked with a sample group of tenants to draft a tenants’ charter – Together with Tenants.

1st Battalion the Mercian Regiment Freedom of Chester

Soldiers of 1st Battalion the Mercian Regiment exercise their Freedom of Chester, which was granted by Chester City Council in 2008, on Tuesday 27 September 2022.

This historic honour gives the Regiment the right to march through the streets of the City with bayonets fixed, drums beating and colours flying.

The Cheshire West Community and Voluntary Arts Awards 2022

The Cheshire West Community and Voluntary Arts Awards 2022 were held at Theatre Porto in Ellesmere Port this week. The High Sheriff of Cheshire, Jeannie France-Hayhurst, presented the awards for Music, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Children and Youth Arts, Unsung Hero, The Sheriff of Cheshire Award, and the Outstanding Contribution Award.
