Friday 3 April - Forage and Cookery Course at Tegg's Nose Country Park
What to Expect on the Forage and Cookery Course
The foraging experience will last approximately 5-6 hours, giving you ample time to learn about foraging, explore the area, and enjoy a wild food meal!
You will be guided by a professional forager, from Totally Wild UK who will teach you about the rules and ethics of foraging. You’ll receive tips on how to confidently identify different plants, including their edible, medicinal, and herbal uses.
The foraging experience will involve a slow-paced walk with frequent stops to discuss and identify various plants, fruits, fungi, seaweeds, and tubers. The species you encounter may vary depending on the location, whether it’s an inland or coastal walk, and the season, but they’ll always be epic.
During the day, you’ll have the opportunity to sample an assortment of pre-made wild food items, including syrups, flavoured salts, and alcohol infusions. These wild treats will give you a sneak peek into the incredible flavours that nature has to offer.
Following the foraging expedition, you can opt to participate in a communal cooking session, creating dishes that are inspired by the season and that celebrate the bounty of nature.
Past meals have included dishes like:
- Wild Garlic and Dehydrated Mushroom Fresh Rolls
- Elderflower Eton Mess
- Dandelion and Dulse Rice Noodle Salad
- Dandelion Root Crumb, Meadowsweet Cream & Birch Sap Syrup
After the event, you will receive an email detailing everything you foraged during the day, including harvesting tips, edibility and the best ways to get these tantalising ingredients into your everyday diets. The email will also include recipes from the lunch you enjoyed, so you can recreate the magic at home!
Booking and payment in advance essential. Cost £70 per forager.

Thursday, 23 April - Plein Air Painting Workshop: Sketching the Landscape
New workshop for 2026!
Join us for fun Plein Air painting workshops in 2026 at Tegg's Nose Country Park. In each workshop, experienced professional painters, Christopher Clements and Kieran Ingram, will help you capture a different aspect of landscape painting.
Sketching is thinking on paper, it can be used to make drawings in their own right, preparation for plein air painting or as first hand reference for studio paintings. Whatever you want to get out of your sketching, this workshop will get you looking at, and thinking about the landscape in front of you constructively and creatively.
We’ll cover:
- analysing the landscape to make better decisions when you’re painting
- different approaches to sketching
- creative use of materials
- experimenting with ideas
A well observed preliminary sketch boosts the chances of a painting working out as you want it to. It will help you think through key decisions before you put brush to canvas. A sketch can help you experiment and analyse key things like framing, the point of focus and big tonal relationships. This not only saves a lot of time, the sketches themselves often turn out to be dynamic pieces of art in their own right.
In this workshop you’ll try out different approaches to sketching, including thumbnail drawings, mass and line drawing as well as note taking to record key observations. You can use whatever media you’re comfortable with as you explore how best to use it to record your impression of the landscape.
This workshop is a great foundation for all the workshops we’re running this year as the techniques studied on this one will be used throughout the series.
All the Plein Air workshops we’re running this summer are based on the Tonalist approach which focuses on interpretation of the light & dark tones of the landscape, while simplifying the colours. The approach will help you to make sense of what you see. You’ll be able to organise it into a well-structured painting, evoking the simple beauty of your environment.
Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned painter, these workshops are perfect for anyone looking to improve their Plein Air painting skills. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get out of the studio and unleash your creativity in the great outdoors.
Booking and payment in advance is essential. Workshop Price £85, reserve your place with a £20 deposit on Eventbrite, the remainder will be invoiced before the course.
Time: 10am to 3.30pm Meeting point: Tegg’s Nose Country Park Visitor Centre, Buxton Old Road, Macclesfield, SK11 0AP (SJ950733) what3words: ///sliding.deny.nutty Leaders: Artists Chris Clements and Kieran Ingram Information: Email Northern Realist or visit the Northern Realist website (Bring a packed lunch / Car parking charge / Easy walking grade / Partnership event / Places limited - please book in advance / Please leave your dog at home / Please wear suitable boots and clothing / Refreshment stop, opportunity for refreshments / There is a charge for this event)

Join Amanda, from Lets Step In, for a soothing evening in nature with beautiful views at Tegg's Nose Country Park for meditation and deep rest & tea .
Unwind as the day slows and nature prepares for night with a series of guided nature-based meditation practices ending with deep rest and tea in community. Press the pause button, come into the present moment, connect with nature, and yourself to soothe your nervous system, reset your mind, and nourish your whole self. We’ll gather in the car park and walk together to where we’ll spend the session (less than 5 minute walk). I’ll be sprinkling in learnings about meditation between the practices and helping you with your practice throughout ~ always encouraging you to dose yourself in compassion and no-judgement.
