SENCO Network - 23rd February 2026 13:00 - 14:30 (Oakenclough Family Hub) or 25th February 2026 16:00 - 17:30 (Sandbach Library)
These network sessions are intended to further develop your understanding, knowledge and skills as SENCO. At these meetings there will be opportunities for discussion with other SENCO’s, networking, sharing of effective practice/materials, input from other agencies and updates on new legislation/initiatives. Attendance at each termly network is highly recommended to keep your SEND knowledge up to date.
Are you Ready for Rhyme Time? - 23rd February 2026 14:00 - 16:00 (Monks Coppenhall Family Hub)
This training session looks at how you can use our Are you Ready for Rhyme Time? programme to support you to build and deliver an effective curriculum tailored to your individual needs. Learn about the importance of rhymes, songs and stories to support all aspects of a child's learning and development. You will find this session invaluable when supporting children to develop their early communication, language and literacy skills. Everyone will receive a copy of the Are you Ready for Rhyme Time? programme.
Supporting Speech Sounds - 24th February 2026 9:30 - 12:30 (Oakenclough Family Hub)
This course is designed to help you to understand and support children’s speech sound development. This session will discuss typical speech sound development in the early years and give you practical ideas for strategies to implement in your setting. You will also get the chance to have a go at some sound awareness activities to increase your confidence in carrying them out with children in your setting.
Prevent Awareness - 24th February 2026 18:30 - 20:00 (Microsoft Teams)
The Prevent Engagement Officer for Liverpool City Council will be leading this Prevent awareness session for early years providers. The training will highlight the differences between terrorism and extremism, explain the current terror threat level to the UK, the prevalence and the impact of the internet and social media on the radicalisation journey and why the Prevent strand is so important in helping to reduce that threat. It will also describe where the current threat to the UK in respect of terrorism is perceived to emanate from, along with some explanation about other ideologies that are of concern. This will include a description of some of the indicators that may be displayed by those who are or might be, susceptible to radicalisation. Most importantly it will explain the local referral process and how you can make a referral for anyone that you may have concerns about.
Responding to and Regulating Emotions in Early Years Settings - 25th February 2026 18:30 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
*Please note: this training course was previously titled 'Emotion Coaching'*
Emotion Coaching is an evidence-based communication strategy that has been developed by psychologists. The strategy helps to support children to understand and self-regulate their emotions, empowering them to feel more confident and resilient. It is based on the principle that developing a nurturing and emotionally supportive relationship will improve children’s wellbeing and academic outcomes. Emotion Coaching enables a setting ethos of positive learning behaviour and gives confidence to practitioners to de-escalate situations when behaviour is challenging, and emotions are heightened. This training will cover an introduction to key psychological theories behind emotions, emotional literacy and communication, practical strategies and ways of working to encourage co-regulation and self-regulation of emotions within young children.
Effective Interactions - 26th February 2026 9:30 - 12:30 (Monks Coppenhall Family Hub)
This interaction training course aims to discuss and define terms relating to communication and why interaction is so important. During the session we will look at 'Top Tips for Talking' and ways you can adapt your interactions to promote communication and support the needs of the developing child. We will discuss how language levels and interaction styles differ between children and how you can differentiate to support individual children's communication development and then focus on the practicalities of how to integrate high quality adult-interaction into your daily routine.
Health and Safety in the Early Years - 26th February 2026 18:00 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
This two-hour training course will provide essential knowledge and understanding of health and safety practices within early years and childcare settings. It has been specifically designed for practitioners who are responsible for maintaining safe environments for children. This training will help you understand your role in promoting a safe, healthy setting and in complying with statutory health and safety requirements. You will explore risk assessment procedures, accident prevention, safe use of equipment, and strategies to manage common hazards. The course will also cover procedures for reporting incidents and maintaining a safe environment that supports children’s wellbeing and learning. By the end of the session, you will have practical tools and confidence to implement robust health and safety practices in your setting.
