The ChESS Early Years Training Hub has been updated with lots of training opportunities for the spring term, please take a look and book on now!
New training next term:
Exploring Mathematics in the EYFS
- 10th February 2026 9:30 - 15:30 (Oakenclough Family Hub)
The session will explore Number, Shape, Pattern and Measure and will support participants to critically analyse how maths is currently taught and how small changes can make this even more effective. Participants will leave with a range of practical strategies to use within their setting to ensure that all children develop firm mathematical foundations - using real-life contexts, quality interactions, and carefully chosen manipulatives to deepen learning and spark curiosity. By the end of this session, practitioners will have developed a deeper understanding of how children build mathematical concepts in the early years and be able to identify ways to embed maths teaching naturally throughout daily routines and continuous provision. Practitioners will explore how mathematical opportunities can be created across different areas of the setting and consider ways to engage parents and carers in supporting maths at home.
Health and Safety in the Early Years
- 26th February 2026 18:00 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
This two-hour training course will provide essential knowledge and understanding of health and safety practices within early years and childcare settings. It has been specifically designed for practitioners who are responsible for maintaining safe environments for children. This training will help you understand your role in promoting a safe, healthy setting and in complying with statutory health and safety requirements. You will explore risk assessment procedures, accident prevention, safe use of equipment, and strategies to manage common hazards. The course will also cover procedures for reporting incidents and maintaining a safe environment that supports children’s wellbeing and learning. By the end of the session, you will have practical tools and confidence to implement robust health and safety practices in your setting.
Cyber Security in Early Years Settings
- 4th March 2026 9:30 - 11:30 (Microsoft Teams)
- 9th March 2026 18:30 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
This two-hour interactive training course supports Early Years settings to navigate sector-specific digital threats. We will explore cyber security practice, governance and culture through relevant scenarios, helping you to protect your setting's data and respond confidently to incidents. We will also consider how best to manage your professional digital footprint.
Exploring Literacy in the EYFS
- 17th March 2026 9:30 - 15:30 (Oakenclough Family Hub)
This session will support practitioner’s understanding of children’s literacy development from 0-4 years and how communication and language, physical development, print awareness and connecting sounds and letters create solid foundations for reading and writing skills. The session will also explore how daily activities like reading aloud, singing songs, and engaging in conversations are crucial for building these skills and fostering a love of reading and learning, building practitioner confidence to support early literacy in their own setting.
