Making Sense of Autism – 17th November 2025 18:30 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
This is an Autism Education Trust (AET) training course. This training will extend your understanding of how autism may affect children in Early Years settings, increase your expertise in recognising an autistic child’s individual strengths and differences, develop your skills in identifying potential barriers to learning for autistic children and develop your understanding of what reasonable adjustments may need to be made to support an autistic child in your setting. This course is an awareness-raising session that introduces autism and the Three Areas of Difference. In the training, we explore areas of difference in terms of strengths and support needs and identify some initial reasonable adjustments that may need to be considered when supporting autistic children.
Good Autism Practice – 18th November 2025 9:30 - 15:30 (Crewe Lifestyle Family Hub)
This is an Autism Education Trust (AET) training course. This training will support you to develop knowledge and understanding of good autism practice, extend your understanding of how you may support a young autistic child to develop and progress and help you to further reflect on reasonable adjustments that can be made to improve your practice when working with autistic children. This course focuses on the importance of getting to know a child and how their autism affects them. We look at examples of distressed behaviours and how these can be supported through a range of strategies, approaches, and reasonable adjustments. The course also guides you through how to gather information about an autistic child’s interests, aspirations, strengths and differences, and how this information can be used when developing a Child-Centred Education Plan (CCEP). The training introduces the AET Early Years Competency Framework so you can develop and evaluate your good autism practice following completion of the course.
Digital Harms – 19th November 2025 10:00 - 12:00 or 18:30 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
Join Alistair Barfield from Deflect and Protect for a session on Digital Harms. Deflect and Protect training sessions focus on the greater issues surrounding digital harms with young people, particularly the relationship between generation alpha and content. Young people spend tremendous periods of time online, engaging with friends, watching content and learning about themselves through the internet. This is an incredibly useful tool but does also present some difficulties particularly when looking at issues surrounding Grooming, Radicalism/extreme beliefs and child gambling. These issues are prevalent for all young people but can be amplified when looking at the neurodivergent community. Over the course of the session, we will bridge the gap between young people, (particularly neurodivergent young people) how society views and treats the community as well as the harms that they may encounter online.
Safer Recruitment – 20th November 2025 9:30 - 16:00 (Crewe Lifestyle Family Hub)
Childcare settings share with others a duty to safeguard the children in their care. Implementing safer recruitment practices is one way of discharging this safeguarding obligation. Keeping Children Safe in Education recommends that at least one of the persons who conducts an interview has completed safer recruitment training. This one-day course gives childcare providers, including childminders who employ assistants, information and understanding they need to recruit safely and comply with relevant statutory guidance. This course covers safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding, the prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers, important features of a safer recruitment process including interview and selection, setting acceptable standards of behaviour and maintaining an ongoing culture of vigilance.
Strengthening Parent Partnerships – 20th November 2025 18:30 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
This two-hour training course will provide practical strategies for building strong, positive relationships with parents and carers. It has been designed for early years and childcare practitioners who want to enhance communication, collaboration, and trust with families, including those from diverse backgrounds. This training will help you develop skills in active listening, empathy, and clear, constructive feedback to strengthen your connections with parents. You will explore how to approach challenging or sensitive conversations with confidence and professionalism, as well as how to adapt communication styles to be culturally competent and inclusive. The session will cover strategies for overcoming language barriers, respecting cultural norms, and engaging parents in decision-making about their child’s learning and development. By the end of the course, you will have practical tools and approaches to foster collaborative partnerships that benefit both the child and the wider family.
