Upcoming training next week:
Physical Development in the Early Years – 17th March 2025 9:30 - 12:30 (Oakenclough Family Hub)
“Physical development is crucial for children’s overall progress. It enables children to engage with the world around them and lays the building blocks for their later physical capabilities and health” (EEF, 2024). Physical Development is the growth and development of both brain and body and involves developing control of muscles and physical coordination. Progression towards this control is not defined by the child's chronological age, but by the opportunity to acquire skills. Join us to explore how to promote Physical Development in the Early Years and how to offer fine and gross motor opportunities for children aged 0-5. This training will explore in depth the impact Physical Development has on children's holistic learning and development, and we will share good practice and provision ideas to inspire you as Early Years providers to get children moving.
What is my behaviour trying to tell you? – 17th March 2025 18:00 - 20:00 (Microsoft Teams)
This training is suitable for all practitioners who work in early years and will provide the skills and knowledge to develop your understanding of children’s social and emotional needs. This session will explore how we can be curious about behaviours and what might be affecting the child at that given time and build a supportive, appropriate curriculum using the EYFS and development matters as a guide. We will also consider current strategies and approaches to ensure they meet the needs of all children, embed behaviour conversations in your practice and develop a whole setting approach to supporting children’s behaviour.
Digital Harms – 18th March 2025 10:00 - 12:00 or 18:30 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
Join Alistair Barfield from Deflect and Protect for a session on Digital Harms. Deflect and Protect training sessions focus on the greater issues surrounding digital harms with young people, particularly the relationship between generation alpha and content. Young people spend tremendous periods of time online, engaging with friends, watching content and learning about themselves through the internet. This is an incredibly useful tool but does also present some difficulties particularly when looking at issues surrounding Grooming, Radicalism/extreme beliefs and child gambling. These issues are prevalent for all young people but can be amplified when looking at the neurodivergent community. Over the course of the session, we will bridge the gap between young people, (particularly neurodivergent young people) how society views and treats the community as well as the harms that they may encounter online.
Early Language Lead Network – 19th March 2025 10:00 - 12:00 (Microsoft Teams)
These sessions are delivered by Cheshire East Chatters Speech and Language Therapists. The Early Language Lead Network offers information and advice on how to support the early communication and language development of the children in your setting. These sessions are a chance for you to find out more about local and national updates around supporting children with SLCN. We often have guest speakers from the Family Hubs to share what’s happening in your local area.
EYFS and Ofsted Changes Briefing – 19th March 2025 12:30 - 13:30 (Microsoft Teams)
This briefing will look at the suggested changes to the EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements due in September 2025 and what needs to happen to put those changes in to place. It will also look briefly at the Ofsted consultation on changes to the inspection framework.
Fundamental Safeguarding Awareness – 19th March 2025 18:30 - 20:30 (Microsoft Teams)
This two-hour training course will provide fundamental information and understanding about safeguarding children. It has been specifically written to address safeguarding in Early Years and Childcare settings and covers practice and procedures used within Cheshire East. This training will help you to develop an awareness of, and the ability to act on, concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people. It will enable you to understand your safeguarding role, be able to define, identify, understand and respond appropriately to signs of possible abuse and neglect and identify safer caring practices.
Safer Recruitment – 20th March 2025 9:30 - 16:00 (Oakenclough Family Hub)
Childcare settings share with others a duty to safeguard the children in their care. Implementing safer recruitment practices is one way of discharging this safeguarding obligation. Keeping Children Safe in Education recommends that at least one of the persons involved in shortlisting and interviewing, should have safer recruitment training. This one-day course gives childcare providers, including childminders who employ assistants, information and understanding they need to recruit safely and comply with relevant statutory guidance. This course covers safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding, the prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers, important features of a safer recruitment process including interview and selection, setting acceptable standards of behaviour and maintaining an ongoing culture of vigilance.
Making Sense of Autism – 21st March 2025 10:00 - 12:00 (Microsoft Teams)
This is an Autism Education Trust (AET) training course. This course is an awareness-raising session that introduces autism and the Three Areas of Difference. In the training, we explore the Three Areas of Difference in terms of strengths and support needs and identify some initial reasonable adjustments that may need to be considered when supporting autistic children. This training will extend your understanding of how autism may affect children in Early Years settings, increase your expertise in recognising a child’s individual strengths and differences, develop your skills in identifying potential barriers to learning for autistic children and develop your understanding of what reasonable adjustments may need to be made to support autistic children in Early Years settings.
