Unbelievably, this is the last Cheshire East Countryside Ranger Service events email newsletter of 2024! We tend to run less events in the months running up to the end of the year, due to the inclement weather, shorter days and the Rangers being very busy undertaking their 'winter works' programmes on our sites.
There are always management works taking place across our countryside sites but in the winter, when the leaves have fallen and wildlife is less active, the Rangers tend to undertake larger conservation tasks. These tasks may include tree thinning or removal at our heathland sites, contractor led safety work on some of our longer trails and other infrastructure projects such as fencing or surfacing. Plus Bollin Valley Partnership colleagues have to manage the conservation grazing Longhorn cattle, that will all be moving into their winter housing at the farm, over the next few weeks.
If you spot Rangers and volunteers working on one of our sites, in the coming months, feel free to ask us for more information about what we are working on as we are always happy to explain the projects we are undertaking.
Also, always please be conscious of any safety signage or barriers temporarily closing off paths or areas. Please never cross into these work areas without first speaking to the Rangers or contractors, as some of the work can be hazardous and so to protect the public we may have to temporarily divert access.
We have 9 events coming up in November and December, including some festive ones!
Scroll right to the bottom of the email to see all of this month's events and get your tickets booked ASAP so you don't miss out!

Wednesday 13 November - Battling the Birch Four
Lindow Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which means we have to manage it to maintain its special heathland qualities. Unless we manage the self-seeding trees, the area will quickly revert to woodland and not the endangered lowland heathland we are protecting.
Help the Bollin Valley Partnership Rangers, and our friends from Mersey Rivers Trust, to clear the birch trees from the site and make birch bundles for use on other sites as riverbank protection. All equipment is provided but please bring gloves and wear sturdy boots as the terrain is rough.
Booking in advance is essential. Suitable for anyone over the age of 10.
