Your time to Shine: DfE comms opportunities
The DfE’s ‘Do something BIG’ campaign is seeking inspiring and standout real-life stories from early years professionals working in nurseries, pre-schools, before and after school clubs, or as childminders. Our goal is to champion the early years sector as part of our campaign and through DfE newsletters and social media channels. We want to hear from staff of all ages and backgrounds, showcasing that anyone, from any walk of life, can work in the sector and bring something unique and valuable to the role.
The DfE campaign team will work with the candidate depending on their story and agree where and how their story will be used to positively promote the great work they do and inspire others.
Please consider if you know anyone that may be willing to be involved and please share this message with your providers and networks. If anyone would like to be considered for a case study as part of this campaign, please ask them to email earlyyears.careers@education.gov.uk.

Information for all settings: Introduction of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill 2024
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill 2024, commonly referred to as Martyn’s Law, was introduced on Thursday 12 September 2024 to ensure that certain premises and events, including education settings, are better prepared and ready to respond to a terrorist attack.
Settings will have time prior to the bill’s implementation, to understand new obligations, and to plan and prepare. The Home Office factsheets provide more detail.
Guidance is available for education settings to help review and develop plans to respond to terrorism and other major incidents.

Information for early years settings: New online SEND training, assessment guidance and resources available now
A new module focused on supporting children with individual differences and needs has been added to the Department for Education’s Early years child development training.
The free online training aims to provide greater understanding of child development, giving practical advice for supporting children in early years settings.
The training can be paused and restarted at any time and a certificate of achievement is awarded on completion of each module.
We have also published new Department for Education’s Early Years SEND assessment guidance and resources on the Help for early years providers platform.
They support a child-centred, strengths-based approach to assessing children’s needs and sharing a child’s progress with parents, carers, and professionals.
There is practical advice, as well as tools and downloadable resources for assessing children with SEND, capturing their voice, and setting targets for progress.
