Eligibility Codes for the Free Early Education Entitlement

Use the Eligibility Checker to check the validity start and end dates of working family eligibility codes before inputting new child data.

3 key pieces of information are required: eligibility code, child’s date of birth and parent’s NI number.

If you get the following message, it may indicate that a piece of the information is incorrect – please check the details with the parent and try again before phoning the FEEE team.

NSPCC Early Years PANTS Resources

NSPCC Learning, with the PSHE Association, has updated its Talk PANTS resources for nurseries and primary schools to help keep children safe from sexual abuse. The updates include a presentation of the Underwear Rule to use with 3- to 5-year-olds.

Early Help Training

We have up and coming early help training for professionals who are completing or going to be completing either Extra Help or Targeted Family Help assessment and plans. We have a session running each month some in the morning and some in the afternoon.

Please share with any relevant professionals in your service. 

For the first part of the session there will be an hour and a half of delivery which has been built to capture a range of professionals with different levels of knowledge and skills focusing on;

The role of the lead professional

- Partnership working

- When to complete Extra Help Assessment and Plans

- When to complete Targeted Family Help Assessment and Plans

The final hour of our session allows for an open discussion for professionals to ask questions, share learning, resources, and experiences of working with families from their service perspective.

Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements: Focus on...

Where children are provided with meals, snacks, and drinks, these must be healthy, balanced and nutritious. Before a child is admitted to the setting the provider must obtain information about any special dietary requirements, preferences, and food allergies that the child has, and any special health requirements. Fresh drinking water must always be available and accessible to children. There must be an area adequately equipped to provide healthy meals, snacks and drinks for children as necessary. All staff involved in preparing and handling food must receive training in food hygiene.

For childminders and nursery practitioners, having a deep understanding of child development can help you provide the best support to all children in your setting. The Department for Education has worked with early years experts to create a free, flexible online training course that can help build on your child development knowledge. The Planning Your Future Events have been arranged by the SEND Transition Team in response to a request from Parent Carer Forum (PCF) to offer additional advice and support for young people with SEND (0-25yrs) and their families on key topics/focus areas linked to preparing for adulthood.

The aim of these events is to showcase the post 16 services available within education, employment, adult social care, health and community services and to encourage discussions to start as early as possible regarding preparing for adulthood.

Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) 0-5 Pathway

The Cheshire East Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) 0-5 Pathway is a tool to help parents, carers and professionals support the speech, language and communication needs of all children.

The pathway was developed by members of the Early Start team, Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and Health Visitors with the specialist support of advisers from The Communication Trust and I CAN through the Early Years SEND Partnership programme.

This pathway includes:

• Information about what to do at the universal, targeted and specialist levels of need
• The processes to follow for health professionals, early years providers and practitioners and the Cheshire East Early Start team; this includes posters to display and share
• Information for parents and carers, including who to contact for support and advice
• Additional useful information e.g. speech & language referral links and explanations of terms

The ChESS Early Years Training Hub has been updated with lots of training opportunities for the Autumn term, please take a look and book on now!

Upcoming training next week:

SENCO Network - 30th September 2024 10:00 - 11:30 (Monks Coppenhall Family Hub)

These network sessions are intended to further develop your SENCO's understanding, knowledge and skills. At these meetings there will be opportunities for discussion with other SENCO’s, networking, sharing of effective practice/materials, input from other agencies and updates on new legislation/initiatives. Attendance at each termly network is highly recommended to keep your SEND knowledge up to date.

Pyjama Drama - My Playful Practice - 1st October 2024 09:30 - 12:00 (Oakenclough Family Hub)

Join Pyjama Drama for a session on ‘My Playful Practice’: Use drama techniques to inspire and accelerate learning. No drama experience required, and you will never be asked to role play or perform in front of anyone during this training. Instead, you will learn through watching live and pre-recorded demonstrations, participating in group reflection and discussion, and by joining in with Pyjama Drama games and activities. You will leave with resources (including lesson plans and music), and ideas and activities you can put into practice the very next day.

EYFS - Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements - 2nd October 2024 10:00 - 12:00 (Microsoft Teams)

This course will explore Section 3 - ‘The Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements’ of the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework for group and school-based providers. This training encourages practitioners to recognise their role in the broader picture of keeping children safe and offers useful links and information to take back to the setting when considering inspection and Ofsted expectations.

Delivering Small Groups - 2nd October 2024 13:00 - 15:00 (Microsoft Teams)

Together with our specialist Speech and Language Therapists you will explore ways to set up small groups focussing on the development of attention and listening skills as well as language skills and vocabulary. You will learn more about how to identify children for the groups as well as sharing thoughts and ideas around using a total communication approach to support children to engage with the activities. Attention and Listening and Vocabulary session planning booklets are included with this training as well as lists of necessary equipment.

 Understanding the EIF and the Learning Walk - 2nd October 2024 (Microsoft Teams)

This two hour online session will give providers an opportunity to consider Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework in the light of the new Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. The curriculum is discussed and consideration is given to how to integrate Intent, Implementation and Impact in to your setting. The Learning Walk is unpicked and Ofsted’s ‘Golden Thread’ is looked at in more detail and is made relatable to you and your provision.

New Managers - Understanding the Role - 3rd October 2024 10:00 - 11:30 (Microsoft Teams)

This session is part of a series focussing on supporting early years practitioners to progress in management roles. This training will look at statutory requirements and skills needed to be an effective manager. This course is suitable for new managers, deputy managers, senior staff and those who aspire to be in a management position.
