Free Early Education Entitlement Briefing

There will be two FEEE Briefings on 8 November 2023 at 10.30am and 6.30pm. These will be via Microsoft Team and are free of charge. The Briefings are aimed at new providers and providers who would like a refresher.

DfE Survey on Assessment in the Early Years Foundation Stage

The Department for Education has launched a short survey to seek the views of early years practitioners, teachers and school and setting leaders on assessment in the EYFS. The survey includes questions on assessment of children with special education needs and disabilities, the early learning goals and the EYFS Profile. Feedback from the sector will help shape future policy development in this area.

The survey is available here and will remain open until Tuesday 3^rd October.

Early Years Special Educational Needs Inclusion Fund (SENIF) Policy Consultation 2023

Cheshire East Council is proposing revisions to its "Policy for the support for children with SEND accessing the early education entitlements".

Special Education Needs Inclusion Fund (SENIF) is targeted support for childcare providers to meet individual needs. Support is not provided directly to the child / family. The revised methodology focuses on an incremental approach to support, concentrating on flexible provision to support children's needs, such as training to upskill practitioners, additional equipment and resources or for children with the most complex needs additional staff support at times they may require it to effectively meet their needs.

Training opportunities

Some training available in the next few weeks:

Difficult Safeguarding Conversations - 4th October 2023 9.30-11.30am (Teams)

This two hour training course aims to provide practical advice to enable practitioners to feel more confident in starting conversations about safeguarding concerns. It will consider parent partnerships, professional curiosity and the practicalities of having difficult safeguarding conversations.

Delivering Small Groups - 4th October 2023 9.30-12 (Teams)

Together with our specialist Speech and Language Therapists you will explore ways to set up small groups focussing on the development of attention and listening skills as well as language skills and vocabulary.

Good Autism Practice - 10th October 2023 9.15-4pm (Oakenclough Family Hub)

This is a module for practitioners who work directly with autistic children in early years settings, and it provides guidance on processes and tools that can help practitioners to implement good autism practice.

What is my behaviour trying to tell you? - 11th and 18th October 2023 1:30 - 3:30pm or 6.30-8.30pm (Teams)

The sessions will explore how we can be curious about behaviours and what might be affecting the child at that given time, build a supportive, appropriate curriculum using the EYFS and development matters as a guide, consider current strategies and approaches to ensure they meet the needs of all children.

Supporting Speech Sounds - 12th October 2023 9.30-12.30 (Congleton Library)

This session will discuss typical speech sound development in the early years and give you practical ideas for strategies to implement in your setting.

Role of DSL - 13th October 2023 9.30-3.30 (Oakenclough Family Hub)

This one day training course provides information and guidance to practitioners new to the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead or those wishing to refresh their knowledge.
