Our 3 Level Road Repair Strategy
Did you know that we have 3 levels to repairing roads?
- Level 1 - pothole repairs – to keep the roads safe and serviceable
- Level 2 - patching repairs – to maintain and protect
- Level 3 - resurfacing – to improve the overall condition
A range of patching and resurfacing road treatments are used to repair our roads. We choose which treatment is most suitable in each situation and will give best value for money in the long term. You can view our level 2 and 3 programme of work on our planned works map

New traffic signal technology
We recently introduced new Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology on two schemes to ease congestion and detect cyclists.
The 'Dual Zone Stop-Line Detector,' has been installed at Hurdsfield Road / Black Lane and on Hulley Road / Charter Way junction in Macclesfield. These signals use artificial intelligence to recognise and group stationary and moving vehicles near the stop-line, giving priority for certain road users such as cyclists.
We will also be introducing a technology called 'ImFlow' during the upcoming traffic signals upgrade on Nantwich Road in Crewe. 'ImFlow' is a real-time traffic-based system that helps traffic control, congestion reduction, and travel time improvement, leading to enhanced air quality. The upgrade is scheduled to start on 31 July and will last for five weeks.
International Women in Engineering Day
At Cheshire East Highways, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce and celebrated the women we have working within the industry during this year’s International Women in Engineering Day.
We’re proud that women in our workforce have won industry standard awards including our Depot Manager Stephanie who recently won the WICE award, and Amy one of our Engineers has been successfully awarded the ICE Quest Travel.
We encourage more women to think about an exciting career in highways and offer many development opportunities.
Works update
Bunbury Common West, Culvert Replacement
|
|
We started works to replace the existing culvert at Bunbury Common West on 24 July 2023. The works will provide a new culverted watercourse which runs beneath the carriageway, improved drainage system and reinstated kerb line.
Due to the nature of the works, the junction of College Lane/Tilstone Bank Lane and Bowe’s Gate Road is closed for approximately 14 weeks, 24 hours a day.

Thank you for your patience whilst we complete these works.
Flag Lane, Crewe Link Road
Works to deliver the ‘Flag Lane Link’ improvements commenced on 15 May and are progressing well.
We're currently working to resurface and reline the carriageway following the completion of the planned footway and kerbing works.
The scheme is due to complete early August and will see the installation of a new junction at the end of Harrison Drive.

Public Satisfaction Survey
5,000 NHT public satisfaction surveys are continuing to be sent out until 26 July 2023 to a random selection of households within Cheshire East. The independent survey run by Ipsos Mori will collect opinions on and satisfaction with the Highway and Transport Services in our area.
The survey will be open until the 25 August.
The unique code on the survey allows for a one time online completion only - there are no additional codes and it will not work for other household members or friends or family - As the basis of the survey relies on random selection, no one can request a copy of the survey.
