Grass cutting and verges
Are you aware that we have an ongoing grass cutting programme for the 5.8 million square meters of roadside grass verge on adopted roads in Cheshire East? To put it into perspective, this is equivalent to mowing 812 full-size football pitches!
Our purpose in cutting the grass is to enhance road safety. We aim to ensure clear visibility at bends and junctions, keep road signs unobstructed, and provide sufficient space for pedestrians to pass on the pavement.
Grass verges serve as havens for plants, birds, and insects. To preserve this wildlife, we only cut grass verges in rural areas once annually.
If you have any issues with a grass verge, please report it to us by clicking below:
Our winter season comes to an end
Although the weather has now improved, it may seem a while ago since we thought about winter. But did you know our winter service runs until the end of April? Our winter service team have worked tirelessly in tackling another winter season since October, keeping the Cheshire East network moving during the colder months.
Since October 2022, we treated over 73,518km of highway and completed over 220 gritting runs. Although the season has only just ended, the team are now busy working behind the scenes planning for the next winter season which is only five months away!
You can read more about our winter service on our winter service webpage!
Flag Lane, Crewe Link Road
We started work to deliver the ‘Flag Lane Link’ improvements on 15 May. As part of the scheme, whilst the road is closed to cars we are pleased to have implemented a temporary cycle and pedestrian through route for the duration of the works.
The improvement works are part of the plans to improve access to the town centre and also reduce congestion and journey times in and out of Crewe by linking Dunwoody Way to Delamere Street via Flag Lane.
Taking 14 weeks to complete, the works will include the installation of a new junction at the end of Harrison Drive.

Earlier this month we attended the Crewe Design and Engineering UTC College as part of an employability skills session hosted by The Cheshire and Warrington Pledge team.
We supported year 10 students in various activities and tasks, including a 'who could build the highest structure with paper straws' challenge. The activities which took place tested and taught the pupils about important skills when looking for employment such as problem solving, working under pressure and how to work well within a team.

Mental health awareness week
As part of mental health awareness week, we challenged the stigma around mental health with a range of activities and presentations whilst also raising money for The Mental Health Foundation through a 'wear it green day'.
Our teams carry out vital work for our communities to keep people safe and traffic flowing so please, before you approach one of our workers, consider the impact your words will have on their mental wellbeing. They should be treated with the same courtesy and respect as anyone else and should not have to face abuse and threats of violence.
