Welcome to the eighth edition of the North West Crewe Package newsletter
The North West Crewe Package (NWCP) is a large-scale infrastructure project, which will significantly ease congestion in the Leighton area and create quicker routes to the hospital. It will improve roads and junctions, bringing forward opportunities for housing developments and for local businesses to expand. It is being delivered on our behalf by Balfour Beatty.
We will keep you up to date with the project latest through these newsletters but there is also the option of attending weekly on-site meetings with our colleagues from Balfour Beatty, who are responsible for the delivery of this project.
These are held from 12-1pm every Tuesday at their site compound at Leighton Hall Farm. The simple aim of these weekly meetings is to answer any questions you may have in relation to the project, no matter how wide-reaching they might be.
For an overview of the project, you can also keep up to date via our website at: cheshireeast.gov.uk/home/NWCP or by contacting the project liaison officer at Balfour Beatty, Steven Doolan, by email: steven.doolan@balfourbeatty.com
 Meet the contractor
We would like to invite members of the public to a ‘meet the contractor event’, which is being held today (Thursday 23 March) from 6-7.30pm at St Peters Community Hall. The aim of the event is to engage with the local community and answer all questions regarding the project.
The full address for the meeting is: St Peters Hall, Church Minshull, Middlewich Rd, Crewe, CW1 4RD.
 Monthly progress
This month we have started installing drainage along Smithy Lane West towards Smithy Lane Roundabout.
Elsewhere on the scheme, we have continued the deep drainage works along the East/West Link Road and Minshull New Road.
The carriageway construction at Leighton Hall Roundabout has now progressed up to the East/West link road and we have continued the main construction of Flowers Lane Link Road including drainage connections and earthworks.
We have also carried out electric service diversion works and drainage investigation works at Flowers Lane Roundabout under temporary traffic lights.
 Upcoming works
A full closure will be put in place on A530 Middlewich Road at Flowers Lane Roundabout from Tuesday 18 April for approximately 9 weeks – this is to allow us to construct the roundabout and associated infrastructure.
We will be continuing with deep drainage installation along the East/West link, North Spine Road and Minshull New Road Roundabout. This will be followed by the road construction at each location.
We will also be laying asphalt along the East/West Link Road and Flowers Lane Link Road.
 Traffic management latest
We have planned the bulk of the following works over the Easter holiday in order to keep disruption to a minimum.
- two-way traffic lights on A530 Middlewich Road have been in place just south of Flowers Lane since 27 February and will continue until 18 April
- two-way traffic lights on A530 on Leighton Hall Roundabout from 3–6 April
- two-way traffic lights on Minshull New Road from 3-14 April
- two-way traffic lights on A530 on Mile House Roundabout on 14 April
 School careers fair
As part of National Careers Week, Balfour Beatty recently took part in a careers fair at Sandbach School. The aim was to provide the school’s 800 year 9 to year 13 students with impartial information and advice about all aspects of employment/education/training and volunteering pathways available within the construction industry.
There was a steady stream of students to the stand throughout the morning and the students were really engaged and asked lots of questions. Balfour Beatty hope to see many of these young faces within their industry over the next few years.
