Welcome to the seventh edition of the North West Crewe Package newsletter
The North West Crewe Package (NWCP) is a large-scale infrastructure project, which will significantly ease congestion in the Leighton area and create quicker routes to the hospital.
It will improve roads and junctions, bringing forward opportunities for housing developments and for local businesses to expand. The scheme is progressing through the construction stage, which is being delivered on our behalf by Balfour Beatty.
We welcome your views on this newsletter, as we are always seeking to improve our communications with residents. We’re keen to understand whether you think we have the right balance of content. Please send your thoughts and suggestions to: nwcp@cheshireeast.gov.uk
Reopening of the A530 Middlewich Road
The first phase of works on the A530 between Pyms Lane and Smithy Lane is complete, and this section of the road is now open.
Further construction work on a second section of the A530 – between Smithy Lane and Flowers Lane – will begin soon and will involve an initial phase of works under two-way signal control, from Monday 27 February through to early summer.
After that, there will be another full closure for approximately nine weeks to allow the junctions to be completed.
Monthly progress and upcoming works
This month we have completed the first two roundabouts on A530 Middlewich Road removing the road closure.
Further north on the A530 Middlewich Road, the main construction of Flowers Lane Link has commenced, starting with drainage connections and earthworks.
Elsewhere on the scheme, we have continued the deep drainage works along the East/West Link Road and Minshull New Road Roundabout. The carriageway construction at Leighton Hall Roundabout has now progressed up to the East/West link road.
The utility diversion works will be completed on Middlewich Road (A530) at Flowers Lane Roundabout. These works will be carried out under a single lane closure just south of Flowers Lane.
We will be continuing with deep drainage installation along the East/West link, North Spine Road and Minshull New Road Roundabout. This will be followed by the road construction at each location.
Our commitment to sustainability
The North West Crewe Package scheme has progressed while maintaining a keen focus on reducing the carbon footprint of the project. Soil has been reused and the movement of materials has been kept to a minimum.
The project team have worked hard to implement habitat improvement packages for local wildlife. This graphic explains more:
