![Intro image for fifth newsletter](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKCHESHEC/2022/11/6661044/intro-pic-october-2022_original.jpg) Welcome to the fifth edition of the North West Crewe Package newsletter
The North West Crewe Package scheme is a large-scale infrastructure project, which will significantly ease congestion in the Leighton area and create quicker routes to the hospital. It will improve roads and junctions, bringing forward opportunities for housing developments and for local businesses to expand.
We will keep you up to date with the project latest through these newsletters but there is also the option of attending weekly on-site meetings with the contractor Balfour Beatty, which is responsible for the delivery of this project. These are held every Tuesday on their site compound at Leighton Hall Farm from 6-7pm.
For an overview of the project, you can also keep up to date via our website at: cheshireeast.gov.uk/home/NWCP or by contacting the project liaison officer at Balfour Beatty, Steven Doolan, by email: steven.doolan@balfourbeatty.com
We would also welcome your views on this newsletter, as we are always seeking to improve our communications with residents. We are keen to understand whether you think we have the right balance of content. Please send your thoughts and suggestions to: nwcp@cheshireeast.gov.uk

There’s been an emphasis on animal safety with the works that have been taking place in October with the installation of a mammal crossing tunnel! This is one of the many habitat improvement measures that will be happening, as we progress with our work on the scheme. This environmentally focused aspect of the project has been part of the wider drainage works, which have continued across the East/West Link Road.
Within the current road closure on the A530 Middlewich Road, we have continued with the earthworks and road construction at Leighton Hall Roundabout and Milehouse Roundabout, in addition to completing all drainage works at Leighton Hall Roundabout.
Further north on the A530 Middlewich Road, vegetation clearance works have commenced on the third roundabout (Flowers Lane Roundabout). This is in preparation for utility diversion works and the main construction of the roundabout.
Still to come...
In the coming weeks, we are due to commence kerb installation at Leighton Hall Roundabout and Milehouse Roundabout in preparation for the first asphalt surfacing visit. Other works at the roundabouts will include the installation of new lamp posts and road signs, and the creation of new footways/cycleways.
The East/West Link Road and North/South Spine Road will see the installation of drainage and commencement of road construction.

Recent developments have seen 2-way traffic lights installed on the A530 Middlewich Road just south of Flowers Lane and on Smithy Lane.
The following is still in place as per previous updates:
- A530 Middlewich Road remains closed between Pyms lane and Smithy Lane – diversion is via Flowers Lane
- 2-way traffic lights are on the A530 Middlewich Road just south of Smithy Lane
- There are narrow lanes between Smithy Lane and the Biowise facility in place for the new Milehouse Roundabout works
Nice to meet you...
![five per cent](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKCHESHEC/2022/11/6661052/4405394/five-per-cent-october-2022_crop.jpg) We have high expectations of the organisations we partner with, especially on projects of such high strategic infrastructure importance as the North West Crewe Package scheme.
Our contractor Balfour Beatty is part of the 5% Club. This means that 5% of their workforce is made up of apprentices and graduates. They believe in creating positive pathways for young people trying to obtain careers within the construction industry. Lewis and Ewan are just two of the many apprentices that are working on the North West Crewe Package scheme and we thought it would be good to introduce them…
Lewis
I’m Lewis, an 18-year-old apprentice quantity surveyor from Liverpool.
I Joined Balfour Beatty through this apprenticeship at the start of September and fresh out of sixth form.
Throughout school, I always wanted to become a quantity surveyor, so this opportunity is great for me to learn and get qualifications while also getting on-the-job experience.

Your questions answered
There’s no parking restriction implemented on Minshull New Road – why is that?
Minshull New Road (MNR) is not part of the official diversion route. If a parking restriction was implemented it would encourage the use of MNR by all vehicle types, including HGVs and offset the present residential parking onto other nearby streets, potentially exacerbating the situation. The network is being monitored and changes implemented where it is expected to provide benefits.
How is Leighton Hospital accessed?
Access to the hospital is unaffected to all users other than those on the A530 approaching from Nantwich. The Hospital ‘H’ symbol should be followed along the official diversion route. This route automatically becomes the existing hospital route at University Way.
How is the tip accessed?
The household waste and recycling centre can only be accessed from the A530 from Nantwich after Coppenhall Roundabout. Direction information signs are in place to assist all road users.
What are the working hours on site?
Monday to Friday 8am-6pm
Saturday 8am-4pm
