Support for early years settings from the Experts and Mentors programme
The Experts and Mentors Early Years COVID-19 Recovery Programme from the Department for Education (DfE) is focused on supporting early years practitioners and leaders to address the impact of the pandemic on the youngest children.
The DfE are currently looking for settings who are interested in receiving support from January 2023, for the spring term (academic year 2022/23). Debbie Gillibrand, an Early Years Manager from Leyland St James Nursery, recently wrote a blog post exploring why she decided to apply to take part in the programme and her experiences of supporting settings in her region. You can read it here.
To receive support, settings must complete the application form by Friday 11 November 2022. You can apply to receive support, and find out further information on eligibility, on Pen Green's website.
Early Years Professional Development Programme
The government is providing a £180 million package of workforce training, qualification and support and guidance for the early years sector to help address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the youngest and most disadvantaged children. The programmes are designed for early years professionals, leaders and settings and includes the Professional Development Programme (PDP3).
Phase 3 of the Professional Development Programme (PDP3) launches in early 2023, building on the impact of PDP1 and PDP2 and rolling out to all 152 local authorities in England. As part of the wider Early Years Education Recovery package, PDP3 is an evidence-based programme aimed at helping practitioners to support the recovery and learning of the most disadvantaged children. PDP3 comprises modules on communication and language, maths and personal, social and emotional development (PSED) delivered by the PDP3 delivery partner through a combination of self-study and online webinars.
Programme Eligibility
Practitioners qualified to Level 3 who have not already completed PDP1 or PDP2 are eligible to apply. Settings will be allocated places based on meeting at least two of the following criteria:
▪ At least one child with an Education, Health and Care Plan or Disability Access Fund indicator
▪ At least one child in receipt of Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)
▪ At least one disadvantaged two-year old
▪ EY providers where settings may not meet the above criteria, however, local intelligence suggests disadvantaged children would benefit from their practitioners receiving additional CPD support.
Practitioners will be expected to take 10-12 days to complete all three modules over a 7-8 month period. Backfill support will be available to allow settings to bring in cover while their practitioners are attending webinars or training.
We are currently identifying eligible settings but just wanted to make you aware in case you do have any practitioners who would be interested in participating in this programme. Further information regarding how and when you can sign up will be provided in the next few weeks.
