Resurfacing has started
Our resurfacing work at Rood Hill, Congleton that started at the end of August is now complete. We've also started to resurface the A537 Buxton Road as part of the Safer Road Schemes.
Looking ahead, we'll also be resurfacing Clay Lane in Moston, Moss Lane in Macclesfield and Brook Street in Macclesfield this year.
Full resurfacing is where the existing surface of a road is removed, and a completely new depth of surface is laid as a replacement. We use this treatment where the road is badly worn and takes heavy traffic.
For more information visit our road improvement and repair webpage.
Surface dressing has now been completed. Thanks for your patience during these works.
Get alerts on planned roadworks
Did you know that you can view current and upcoming roadworks, road closures and other traffic disruptions in Cheshire East on the one.network website, which is displayed on the Cheshire East Roadworks page. You can search by street name and area and for roadworks today and in the coming weeks.
We use one.network online roadworks mapping to share planned works. This way, everyone can see who’s doing what and, in many cases, try to minimise clashes. Of course that’s not always possible, particularly when a utility company has to react to an emergency, for instance to fix a water or gas leak or to restore electric power. However the majority of works are shown on one.network.
You can set yourself up to receive automated, regular emails that contain details of planned roadworks in any map area you care to define. Provided that you have an email address and have created an account (free) with one.network, you can be receiving updates and information within an area you define. Then a single click on the map will provide you with the identity, nature and likely dates that the works will be going on. Even better – one.network will show official diversion routes, known events, and live traffic information if you select the appropriate layers. Why not sign up:

Spreading Winter Knowledge!
 |
|
It may only be September, but our team are in full swing preparing to deliver our winter service. Each year, on 1 October, we go on standby 24/7 for winter gritting. Using daily forecasts and local knowledge our team decide each day if, where and when we need to send out the fleet of 17 gritters. |
Our winter treatment routes cover 38% of our road network, or about 1,020 km and the routes are reviewed every year to consider if changes are required. Although we treat key routes across the borough, we cannot ensure that all roads will be completely clear of snow or ice, so please take care – especially on untreated roads.
To learn more about how we manage and deliver the service please visit our Gritting and snow clearance webpages. These webpages show the routes we cover, offers information about how people can self-help and serve their local community when and if we get snowfall. And you can even track our gritting vehicles in real time.
Daily gritting actions will be shared through @CECHighways twitter
Gullies during Autumn
 |
|
Did you know that we are responsible for gullies and gully grids on adopted roads in Cheshire East, and we have a programme of maintenance to empty each one.
You can check when gullies near you are due to be emptied by looking at our online tracker.
|
Before you report an issue with a gully or drain you should be aware that gullies vary in the speed they can drain water away. Some will overflow during heavy rain even if there is no blockage. The water will clear when the rain stops.
Each gully has a trap to collect and stop leaves, litter and dirt from entering the drain and causing a blockage. Whenever the trap is full the gully’s drainage will slow down and may cause it to overflow. This is a likely cause of most non-urgent issues and should be picked up during our routine maintenance.
You can read more on our road gullies and drains webpage.
Try out our Twitter for useful highways info!
We have a Twitter account that provides useful information: @CECHighways – for general service information, including advance notice of selected works; scheme updates and photos showing our works underway or completed. We also provide real-time updates on any key closures and during adverse weather events to help you plan your journeys through the borough. |

Please note, the account is not continuously monitored and highways issues should always be reported via our website or telephone and not social media.
Works update
Broken Cross traffic signals, Macclesfield
Contractors operating on behalf of developers are carrying out an agreed scheme to remove the roundabout at Broken Cross in Macclesfield and replace it with a signal-controlled junction. This is a third party developer led scheme via a section 278 agreement with Cheshire East Council. A section 278 allows a developer to carry out works to the public highway within the required quality standards.
We're aware of the impact these works will mean for people travelling in and out of Macclesfield during this construction project and would advise drivers to follow any recommended diversions, where possible.
The scheme is due to be completed by late November, followed by two further closures in the new year, involving Pexhill Road, Gawsworth Road and Fallibroome Road.
For any queries relating to the works, please contact HA Civils: on info@hacivils.co.uk or by calling 0151 559 0860.

Highways Awards - Finalists!
We're thrilled to have received three nominations for the prestigious Highways Awards 2022 which will be held in October.
One nomination is for our work to rebuild the collapsed riverside wall in Bollin Grove, Prestbury which has earned a nomination in the Steve Berry Highways Authority Innovation Award.
A new risk-based approach to determining gritting routes sees us also nominated in the Winter Maintenance Award while our team member Daniel Johnson, who has excelled in the business since joining in 2020, is up for the Apprentice of the Year Award.
Whatever the outcome of the awards, we're proud of our teams for their hard work and commitment!
North West Crewe package (NWCP)
The reopening of the A530 – part of the council’s North West Crewe Package scheme – has been delayed due to a planning delay from one of the council’s partners on the project.
|
United Utilities discovered recently that original pipework installed below ground in the affected area was not as recorded. Further technical investigation work was required as an immediate priority to determine the material of the original pipework, before new diversion work could take place.
As a result, the A530, which had been due to open at the end of October, will now unfortunately have to remain closed, with the new rescheduled date for the road to reopen being January 2023. Read more here.
