Going into Tier 2
You’ll have heard the news by now that Essex, along with much of England, will be going into Tier 2 restrictions once lockdown comes to an end in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Here is a reminder of some of the key features of this tier:
- Indoors: no mixing outside of your own household or support bubble in any private or public setting
- Outdoors: rule of six applies
- Non-essential shops can re-open from Wednesday morning, but pubs and bars must stay closed unless operating as restaurants
- Weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on the numbers of attendees
- Public attendance at outdoor and indoor events, such as performances and shows, is permitted with restricted numbers
- Public attendance at spectator sport and business events can resume subject to social contact rules and with restrictions on capacities

Business grants
Our business team is working hard to process applications for grants available for businesses affected by the pandemic. If you think you may be eligible for any of the different types of funding, please check online here before getting in touch. If you run a Chelmsford business, please sign up to our e-newsletter and join our ‘Chelmsford for business’ Facebook group; these channels, along with our website, are regularly updated with all the latest information about business support.

Panto 2020
Panto comes to Chelmsford City Theatres next week as performances of Sleeping Beauty get underway. Although it will all be a little different this year, the annual pantomime will bring some much-needed magic to our city as the Civic Theatre is transformed into the kingdom of Tiddlington. The theatre team has been working hard to create a COVID-secure production and more tickets will be released soon; to be the first to hear about this, sign up to the Chelmsford City Theatres mailing list and follow their social media pages.

Enlightened at Hylands Estate
This December, Hylands Estate plays host to a winter light trail by Enlightened Moments. The historic Victorian Pleasure Gardens will be seen in a brand-new light as they’re transformed after hours. Food and drink will be available as you follow the trail and there’s even a chance to fit in some Christmas shopping at The Stables, where some of the Hylands Artists will be selling festive gifts. Visit www.enlightenedmoments.co.uk/ for tickets.
