Your latest Active Charnwood update is here!
In this edition of the newsletter, the countdown to our Countryside Walks programme is on, with the first walk of the year now less than two weeks away. Places on April’s walks are filling quickly, so we encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment. We also have availability on our Strength and Mobility sessions at Mountsorrel Memorial Centre.
In March, we were pleased to launch a brand-new Health Walk at Thurmaston Health Centre, welcoming 26 walkers to the first session. Despite the unpredictable weather, the walk was a great success and highlighted the continued demand for accessible community activity.
As we move into the spring and summer months, we are continuing to promote our Outdoor Gym sessions, providing more opportunities for residents to stay active outdoors.
We’re also delighted to have secured a further 12 months of funding for our Steady Steps programme, allowing us to continue delivering targeted support to those who need it most.
Families can also take advantage of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, Holidays Together, offering free Easter holiday clubs for children aged 4-16 who receive benefit-related free school meals. Please see below for the full list of activities.
Finally, the Active Charnwood team would like to wish you all a very happy Easter.
 Countryside Walks countdown
Active Charnwood’s Countryside Walks programme is returning in less than two weeks, and our April walks are already close to full.

If you’re yet to sign up to one of the April walks, there’s still time to secure one of the remaining places. Alternatively, a full programme of walks is available throughout May and June.
You can view full details on the Countryside Walks page of the Active Charnwood website.
We ask for booking for these walks to keep the group size manageable for the walk leaders. To book your place/s please complete the booking form on our website or if you're unable to book online call us on 01509 634561 during office hours.
Mountsorrel Memorial Centre Strength and Mobility Sessions
Book your place on our community-based Strength and Mobility sessions at Mountsorrel Memorial Centre. These sessions are designed to support physical health, build confidence, and improve overall wellbeing in a friendly and inclusive environment.
Here’s what some of our current participants have said about the sessions:
“The class is fun, friendly and has improved my strength.”
“I walked the dog today and it was the first time in months when I wasn’t in pain afterwards.”
Our Strength and Mobility sessions offer low-impact, adaptable exercises suitable for a wide range of abilities. They provide a great opportunity to stay active and connect with others in the community.
Sessions take place every Thursday at 11am at Mountsorrel Memorial Hall and cost £4.10 per session.

Thurmaston Health Centre Wellbeing Walk Success
On Wednesday, 11 March, we welcomed 26 walkers to the very first Thurmaston Health Centre Health Walk, delivered in partnership with Active Charnwood and Active Together.
It was fantastic to see so many people join the inaugural walk, even with the windy weather! These walks provide a great opportunity for patients to get active, enjoy some fresh air and connect with others, supporting both physical and mental wellbeing. We had some fantastic feedback on the day, with many already asking when the next walk will be. We’re looking forward to seeing this group continue to grow in the coming weeks.
Not everyone who joined the walk is pictured, but we’ll try and get everyone in the photo next time!
Steady Steps
We’re delighted to share that we’ve secured a further 12 months of funding for our Steady Steps programme. Planning is currently underway, with sessions set to be delivered in Syston, Mountsorrel, and Loughborough.
It’s fantastic to be able to continue developing and delivering targeted programmes that support the health and wellbeing of Charnwood residents. If you would like to find out more or explore opportunities to get involved, please contact the Active Charnwood team.
